I see no real problem here. It seems to me that if one opts out of traditional school, they can expect to also opt out of traditional school activities, the vast majority of which she can still participate in if I am reading the story correctly.

I think it's over already. I've known quite a few home schooled students over the years (not here, but in other states) and they were allowed and encouraged to participate in many of the activities like sports, social activities, choirs, bands, and some types of classes that just were not feasible to do with home school groups alone. I'm surprised that she was denied the privilege of attending. It's always hard to get both sides of any story these days, so maybe there is information that would better explain the decision that was made.
