30-a beach looks like tent city

are people just raised by wolves now? is nobody taught respect and not to litter or to leave something as you found it? why are people so selfish and entitled acting? this is really bothersome :(

Fatih Erdogan: Drowned in Gulf last week

A newlywed and Fleming's employee, Fatih, succombed to the undertow last week and drowned :( He was from Turkey and lived in the area for 4 years. His wife and friends are trying to have his body returned to Turkey for a proper burial, but the cost is $8000. Does anyone know if Fleming's has...

    Full time in WaterColor

The priority overnight has only been an issue with business contacts. They get very annoyed when they pay for a service that doesn't actually work, so it's best to let them know! I don't mind waiting for our shipments if it's just shopping! Bear in mind, unlike the big city where we were very...

    Full time in WaterColor

we just moved here, so i can't make an assessment just yet, but here are some of my observations as a family with a small child we are still struggling trying to find resources and community. but it may be easier to do with a school aged child (don't know much about the quality of the schools...

Sandestin sale being negotiated [Update: Sold to Becnel Family]

the 8 million subdivisions and town names and zip codes have little or no relevance to tourists looking to visit or vacation in the area. that's kind of where locals get it wrong. yes, i know it matters to you whether or not it's a st. joe's development or it's peter bos in destin or a...

Sandestin sale being negotiated [Update: Sold to Becnel Family]

speaking of not family friendly. i'm sitting here hoping that keith howard's little middle aged frat boy extravaganza at grand boulevard closes down early, so the loud music (grand boulevard is over a mile away from my home) doesn't wake up my little girl for the third time. i guess a bunch of...

Sandestin sale being negotiated [Update: Sold to Becnel Family]

actually, the adhoc carnival rides and things they put up on the weekends are not "family friendly" fare at all. for the safety reasons you mention. while locally, people may not mind letting their kids use these rides, when competing for the tourist dollar on a national and international level...

Sandestin sale being negotiated [Update: Sold to Becnel Family]

you mentioned alot of great resources and natural attributes, the problem has never been that. the problem is that they've never been packaged, prepared and made easily accessible and marketed to tourists.
  21. T

Sandestin sale being negotiated [Update: Sold to Becnel Family]

precisely. apparently, that's considered "faulty" logic. however, for example, locals are constantly doing publicity and advertising that promotes sandestin as a 'family' resort. marketing means that there is an operational component of the brand that is being promoted. i don't deny that locals...

Sandestin sale being negotiated [Update: Sold to Becnel Family]

actually, i think the locals don't get the best ways to market sandestin. or the area as a whole. case in point, 'THE beach' or 'beaches of south walton'. i have NEVER seen a good marketing concept or strategy and definitely not seen any thorough execution of tourism marketing here. outsiders...

Sandestin sale being negotiated [Update: Sold to Becnel Family]

i'm a sandestin homeowner and i found out about it here. that's pretty much how they handle things here. i don't expect it to get much better, but only worse, if becnel buys it. he'll probably chop it up. baytowne is a pretty typical concept and not at all revolutionary, it's succeeded...

Walton County Commissioner Brannon accused of ethics violations

alan, i am SO impressed with your commitment. i hope you see justice, but in the meantime, keep making people uncomfortable. i got shivers when i read the description of events. i'm sorry, but it's scary how the culture of unethical behavior is so pervasive here. they're not even the slightest...

State of SoWal Real Estate - Spring 2009

you know, i've started to think that because i didn't get the hysteria of the housing boom the first time. it may be hard for me to understand what gets everybody all exicted. you like facts shelley, so do i. but i'm beginning to think that goofy catchphrases and the herd mentality work for alot...

Is sowal ready for it's own Wal-Mart

how can someone support a walmart or any store down the road, but then suggest you don't want it in your neighborhood? that's seriously hypocritical. walmart wouldn't come here if they didn't have your business. and walmart is VERY different from other big box stores like target and whole foods...

Seaside Founder Robert Davis has a lot to do

yeah, while i admire davis' vision seaside hardly lives up to it. local produce? pedestrian accessibility to all services? there's also a highway running through it. the fact that they live somewhere else attests to the livability of their experiment. i do think the experiment can work. i just...

Is sowal ready for it's own Wal-Mart

that's the problem. all walmart sees is a potential market with big sales numbers in destin. the only way to really stop is is to stop shopping there. a colleague did a documentary about it and this is his website. http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/

    Spring break rentals vs snowbirds

Shelly, I always look forward to your two cents!! I got some interesting insight from my friends in the entertainment business about why this location has not seen the same economic boom from other spring break locations where they've filmed- cancun, palm springs, miami. I probably wouldn't...

    Spring break rentals vs snowbirds

we live here full-time and really see the difference between the snowbirds and spring breakers. many snowbirds in our neighborhood treat their rental with care as if it's their own home. the spring breakers also treat their rental as if it's their own home too, but sadly they live in dorm rooms...

New highway 331 bridge in Walton County

you know, if they didn't want to pay for a bridge, then the powers-that-be shouldn't have allowed so much development. as it is even with a 4-lane evacuation in case of hurricane will be difficult during the high season.

    passover/kosher food

funny, i just read an interview with robert & daryl davis - founders of seaside. and they were talking about why they left 10 years ago and moved to san francisco. it was because they're jewish and wanted their son to have a barmitzvah and felt it was an impossibility here. i hope some things...
