A few days before Walton County, Indian River County filed in court to affirm customary use on 22 beachfront properties using the process set up in FS 163.035. A trial on that case took place last month but no decision yet.

They were after a lot more, but what they got were eight parcels in the subdivision, including three that used to be considered neighborhood beach access property and others that were undeveloped platted roads.

Not sure whether names would be released anyway if it is juveniles who are arrested. I think names are usually left off in arrest reports of minors.

Permitting may be challenging depending on what plans they decide to pursue. It is just being referred to as the Eastern Lake beach property for now.

The last I heard there were still plans to develop the Eastern Lake outfall property as a public beach access and workshops were going to be held to take public input on what people would like to see. I believe beachgoers are using the property as it is, though.

Makes Walton County's purchase of the 300 feet of beach at the Eastern Lake outfall for $9.5 million early this year look like not a bad buy.

The Highway Patrol report said the driver was from Illinois and he was driving fast along CR-83 in "inclement weather," he said he fell asleep and the car hit the wooden beach access walkway and then traveled down the slope onto the beach.

One company bid the first time and they didn't meet requirements, so the commissioners voted to do a new bid. No one seems to want them but apparently the scooters can't be banned outright thanks to the lobbyists.

They said at the June 1 TDC meeting that plans were to open it by the end of the week.

Preliminary engineering and right-of-way acquisition have been scheduled for a 2021-2025 time frame. "Funding for construction is beyond 2040." This is according a May 2020 DOT document for the project. Trying to get additional information.
