SWFD: Single Red Flags should be taken seriously

Mike Huckabee’s role in pushing controversial beach access law

........The attitude of I am local and have been here for xyz is as bad or worse than the carpetbaggers. The fact someone has been here 5-10-15-20 years in no way makes them an expert on the topic. Hell, I have been here 25 or so. I reckon that gives me a PHD?

Mike Huckabee’s role in pushing controversial beach access law

Can someone explain where this idea comes from? I really don't understand how they(becahfront owners) have come to this conclusion.

Dave Raushkolb: Customary Use Shouldnʼt Require Defending

As someone who was arrested twice for trespassing(younger years) and nearly arrested for trespassing a dozen or more times(still younger years), if the property line is not clearly marked with a no trespassing sign, it's not enforceable.........just saying.

Dave Raushkolb: Customary Use Shouldnʼt Require Defending

I don't see how the customary use argument stands. Much of the area around here was wide open. I grew up hunting it, my dad hunted it, my grandfather hunted it, and people before us hunted it. Now, a huge portion of it is houses and developments. Does the customary use argument work for this...

100% preventable........by this logic, all crimes are preventable. If the car is locked, is it your fault they broke the window? According to WCSO, yes, yes it is.

    Hurricane Irma

This is my concern. The mass exodus out of SFLA and the S. East Coast will be congesting our area. A small shift(100 miles) in this storm to the west will put us in real weather. Because of this, I am getting my place together today so we can get out if need be. If it makes a last minute...

    Hurricane experiences of years past

Pulling water from the bottom of the water heater will result in extremely calcified and scaled water. Like LC said above, if it's an old unit, you may not even be able to drain it for all of the settled solids. A couple of things I remember from some past storms were to have two-cycle mix...

    Hurricane experiences of years past

I was young and had no "skin in the game" when we got our bad storms(Opal). Things have changed over the last 20 years with wife, kids, house(s), etc. Given the ugliness going on in Houston, I am curious as to some of the lessons learned from some of you that have a few more years under their...

    Poisonous Snakes In South Walton

I cover a lot of ground here and have never seen a Coral Snake. I have seen a pile of scarlet king snakes. There are a lot of pygmy rattlers here especially in September. I have only encountered two eastern diamond backs. I do not like snakes but they are just doing their thing. Live and...

Man Arrested For Threatening Walton County Employee With Gun About Tent On Beach!

What folks forget, is that tourists will come no matter the local "vibe". They come for the sand and the water. The "local hospitality" is more often than not, carpet baggers that were tourists themselves 5-10 years ago. Now they are "local" and enjoy throwing "touron" around to give...

Annual State Forest Liaison Meeting Tonight!

They typically plant in the winter. So I would say the replant is soon. I do not believe they have root raked so they still need to go through it and row it before planting. This was done with grant money to remove and replant with long needle pines.

For Sale Want to own an island in SoWal?

It's a cool piece of property but not worth anywhere near the $3.5mil. Like you said the bulk of the build able portion is an easement and much of the remainder is wetlands. It has a small group of does that live on it and I expect it to be that way for a long time.

Urban Planning. You dont understand the appeal to Seaside, just think of what it could look like. That is the significance. The forethought of what was coming and to maximize the use but minimize the impact. As far as appeal of Seaside, well, I get that. All of 30A is just as you described...

    Ambulance Involved in Crash

    Mike Huckabee's House

    Mike Huckabee's House

I still don't follow how that is above and beyond when every house that has driven armor protecting it, had fake dunes constructed to cover said armor. Not only fake dunes, but then they have the audacity to plant native vegetation on the fake dunes! Gasp! The horror!

    Mike Huckabee's House

I don't see how what he did was/is any different than any other home constructed on beach front property. If you ever been through the permitting process of a beach front home, there is a lot of red tape and shifting the home location on the property to please the A/E and/or DEP is nothing...

Florida Fish & Wildlife to vote on hunting Florida Black Bears...

Because it's something I am passionate about. No, this has been done and it's not effective and it is extremely expensive. One study I read averaged around $10,000 per animal. I think to answer that question, you would have to remove man from the equation and it's not feasible. I love to...

I would be interested in the details of the alligator you are talking about. If it is the 2013 gator, you can blame the Destin Log for poor reporting of info, certainly not facts, and you would likely be less upset with the hunt. Florida Fish & Wildlife to vote on hunting Florida Black Bears...

Read my first post. This hunt has NOTHING to do with the bears of 30A. It has all to do with the Ocala, Big Cypress, and Appalachicola Bears. The Eglin BMU which is what group the 30A bears would fall under will not be hunted, atleast in the proposals I have read. Point Washington and Eglin...

Florida Fish & Wildlife to vote on hunting Florida Black Bears...

This is why I am concerned. People are trying to impact the vote of the bear hunts do not even understand the usefulness of the resource. Bear, Deer, Pig, Turkey, Dove, Quail, Squirrel, Duck(s), Turtle, Rattlesnake, Alligator are all excellent eating that Florida has to offer.

Florida Fish & Wildlife to vote on hunting Florida Black Bears...

We absolutely eat bears. Black bears are a excellent table fare. Bears have never been in danger due to hunting. That has never been the case, especially in Florida. In fact, I can make an excellent case that because of hunting animal populations thrive. Just look at deer hunting. It's a...

Nobody is talking about eliminating anything. Deer and turkeys benefit heavily from a limited hunt that has been on going for decades. We have no choice but to manage the animals and that means selectively harvesting some of these animals. You can put your head in the sand and say no to...

Trash management would not have stopped a single one of the recent bear attacks. The facts are the facts and it is high time that we manage the resource that we are stewards of. A selective bear harvest is good for the human population as well as the bear population. Furthermore, the Alaqua...
