    Fireworks at Grayton last night

It was all for show as far as I could tell. Stern looks and shining flashlights about, but no culprints located or tickets issued that I saw. Pretty ridiculous actually.

"Beach spreading"...let's see if this spreads south!

While I don't care for smoking, I do like to drink on the beach. Not have a frat party, just enjoy a glass of wine at sunset. I don't think banning those addresses the truly obnoxious behaviors. And often the "family" groups are the worst, so that designation doesn't mean much to me.

Walton County Meeting about Buying Property for New TDC Facility 4/13/18

I think a Visitor Center that is actually accessible to incoming visitors is a good idea, but question how much traffic a visitor center really gets in the digital age. And the nonsense about the land already being part of a shady deal with Blue is very frustrating.

    Traffic lights on 393?

That was the BCC's solution to the massive traffic increase soon to be coming from the Fox Lake development off Fairway Drive.

    Car Burglaries

Unlocked car burglaries have been going on for months, it isn't a spring break thing. My impression is that WCSO is getting rather frustrated that people still don't lock their vehicles despite repeated warnings. If people won't lock their vehicles, could they please at least stop leaving guns...

    SoWal's Scenic Highways

I like the current name of 30A and definitely don't want it changed. Adding a name to the connector roads I am not as opposed to, but I tend to not want to rename things that already have names. After the Big Blue Signs, and the ugly green street signs being used for the dune lakes, I am leery...

Gulf Coast Go: double decker buses and trolleys for Hwy 98 & Scenic 30A

Do you have to have a Songwriter's wristband to ride, or are they free to the general public?

    Misc Roof pitch

No. Pitch may limit what materials you can use, but a slight difference in slope will have a negligible change in cost. But roof type can make a difference in insurance coverage. Hipped roofs are less costly than gables to insure.

    Beware the "Meat" Sales People

Forget permitting these kinds of businesses as a solution and just have the WCSO run them out of town. Door to door solicitation should be illegal if it already isn't.

Golf Carts - Street Legal Required in SoWal?

I don't think that is B.S., obviously emailing or posting something on social media is not the fastest way to contact the police.

Need To Rent A PO Box

That is probably easier, my preferred solution is to have the housewatcher just send the mail in a flat rate box once a week. I have not been impressed by the post office's ability to forward mail correctly.
  17. B

Need To Rent A PO Box

Be careful, if you rent a PO Box from a UPS store, you can't get your mail forwarded from there. The post office considers every box at that location to have the same street address and won't forward from there. You have to then pay the UPS store to forward your mail.

Sick Of Beach Chair Vendors in South Walton

It's only going to get worse. At last night's BCC meeting the TDC apologized that the year to date bed tax numbers were only up 11% and summer numbers were only up 7%. That is insane growth, no wonder we are having so many problems.

    30A Rats

There are always lot of critters around, but rats when there isn't a restaurant or dumpster around is a bit odd. We do have beach mice, they're a protected species and quite cute looking.

Publix at WaterColor - not a good development

I love a good beach bonfire, but am tired of finding bonfire remnants on the beach. Yet one more example of buttheads ruining a good thing for the rest of us. I guarantee that fewer bonfires on the beach will not cause tourism to vanish. I also guarantee that limiting vendors to the simple...

Realtor & Rental Billboards on Scenic 30A

I mind when there is more than one or when they put them where they block the multi-use path or sidewalk. And when they put them out every single day. But a temporary sandwich board sign is definitely better than the giant ones.

Low Density Zoning Will Save Our Space (sos)

Many large properties in Sowal have preservation requirements to preserve certain habitats and land types. The BCC may at their discretion (but is not required to) allow them to pay a fee and develop up to 50% of that preservation space. That is referred to as a preservation buyout. The fee is...

Low Density Zoning Will Save Our Space (sos)

Density by itself isn't the problem. I don't have a problem with small lots if they have small houses on them. If 30a was still beach cottages instead of mega houses, we'd be just fine. Wouldn't having realistic parking requirements be a way to easily limit house size? Just because an area is...

What In The World Is Going On?

Watercolor needs to pay for additional security like Seaside. All the other taxpayers pay extra when they do things that cause crowds and need more services than normal. That is true even for charity or non-profit events and memorial services. The rental companies and owners need to crack down...

    Sounding the Alarm

If the concern is living conditions, and construction to fix that is already in the works, why do we need to waste $25K on a study and delay months before addressing it? Increase the fee and fix the issue.

Walton BCC Meeting - Potential Property Purchases 12/13/16

I believe the BCC/TDC isn't interested in buying lots north of 30a for beach access. It makes sense that with limited funds they would want to stick to beachfront.

New to the area in the near future....

I would avoid any area that allows short term rentals and west of Seaside doesn't have the traffic gridlock that the east end is dealing with.

You left a restaurant because you didn't like a fish variety on the menu? Great example of how prejudices prevent you from enjoying life. Mullet is quite tasty when fresh and cooked properly. Lionfish is delicious too.

    Eastern Lake Outfall Parcel Purchase

No property ownership changes under Customary Use, so there is no taking. No property rights change, so there is no taking or loss. All it is is legal recognition that the public's beach use shall continue as it has for decades. Nothing new, nothing radical, just the same property and...

Is Walton County buying land for public access ?

The neighbors on both sides of this proposed beach access are condos. The complex that hired the lawyer doesn't have a single full-time resident, they are all rental units. I can't think of a better place to put a new public beach access - the only people potentially bothered by tourists will be...

Misc 30A Trading Company: 7,000 sf Retail in Seagrove Beach

Open from 8am-10pm all 7 days of the week, how is that compatible with a quiet residential neighborhood? Most restaurants have shorter hours. And I severely question their claim that it will be high end, I have seen their other businesses and what they consider attractive and code complaint...

Is Walton County buying land for public access ?

The county commission has voted to acquire property for a new regional beach access in Dune Allen and other property on CR-283 in Grayton Beach that would provide for beachgoer parking. The decisions took place at the Aug. 23 Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting at the South...

Policy on Personal Beach Chairs vs Vendor

So for the next 3 days we will have vendors driving on all our beaches in trucks? What a crock. Hope they don't run over any turtle nests or humans, as I've never seen them drive even close to 5 mph. Far better solution is to get rid of all on-beach storage.
