    Misc I Love Not Renting

Same here as well back in '07 as bottom fell out of market. Just purchased the above mentioned wifi thermostats and will hopefully install this week. Unfortunately have not found a property manager who actually looks in on the house as advertised. Stuff just happens to refrigerators and air...

Keep the faith Chef Chris. We will keep our eyes open and hopes up for the future!

    Spring Break Shenanigans

8 year old bike (no gears, pedal brakes) stolen at seaside this week. Have never locked bikes there before but bought locks and will from now on.

    Summer Kitchen Closing?!

Can't say enough positive about Coast. The staff took extraordinary care of our large party last pm and food as always was superb. Cheers!

    Raw Oysters

Goatfeathers II. Shucked 'em ourselves tonight. Mighty tasty. Much more respect now for folks who can actually shuck oysters though!

Which restaurant has the very best fried oysters?

Fried oyster and spinach salad with bacon vinaigrette dressing at Cafe 30a is mighty hard to beat.

    New Speed Limit Signs

To "local". I've been passed on 30-a about a half dozen times in the last 6 years. All the cars passing me had Florida plates.

Onano Neighborhood Café Closing then Moving

Any updates on re-opening? Long time fan!

Beach Chairs all the way up to the water

What is there to stop someone from moving an unoccupied set up behind another set up and setting up their own set up?

    June grass still heavy?

Pretty thick close to shore but some patchy areas that aren't too bad. Water great otherwise and yesterday I had a 3 foot wide sea turtle pop his head up next to me!

What are your Top Sowal Restaurants?

Best shrimp po boy on 30a sounds like a great poll. My vote there is bud and allys but very willing to sample any other suggestions! Tango remains terrific. Great and friendly owners and staff. Gravel road, Onano, and cafe 30a fabulous. Nicks should not be overlooked and I'm so glad they...

    Fire Relocating to Gulf Place

Have always thought fantastic food but building not so great. Wish them very well in new location and will track them down in June!

    Time to buy JOE

Happy to buy Joe stock from you at "well under $10/share" now or any time in my remaining years. I flew out of the pcb airport yesterday (launched by that short term thinking company). It was completely packed. I drove by the hospital in sandestin several times last week. Parking lot looked...

    Courtyard wine and cheese

Congrats to the Krutz family (kin of Rosemary Beach's Courtyard Wine and Cheese) for scoring a 97 from Wine Enthusiast for their 2006 Stagecoach Cab along with a front cover picture of their label. Well deserved! Hope there might be some left next time we make it in. A great gathering spot...

2011 to be record year for foreclosures

I've never understood the anti-Joe sentiment so consistently expressed by many of the frequent posters on sowal.com. The watercolor and Watersound developments are phenomenal and both kept a tremendous amount of natural undeveloped space rather than cram lots into every available square foot...

Nick's Seafood Restaurant Returns To Blue Mountain Beach Location

Nicks! Nicks! Nicks! Nicks! One of my first memories of 30a. Are you sure you have to wait until February? Coming down in November and December - guess we'll have to wait

Just In: Gravel Road Makes Smooth Move To Seagrove

Huge fans of Gravel Road and staff. Wonderful breakfast and dinner meals at a very reasonable price. Friendly service and management. Go often and enjoy!

    steakhouse?

Cafe 30a has phenomenal steaks as well, if you can stop yourself from ordering fish. However, I totally agree that having Modica cut a filet or ribeye to your specs and then grilling at home after watching sunset beats any steakhouse anywhere
  19. C

    Cafe Bouche?

We were also great fans of cafe B and sad to see it close. Gravel Road moved in, improved the interior and exterior and offer terrific breakfast and dinner at very reasonable (for 30-a standards) prices. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed.

    Quicksand on the beach

We had a very similar experience back in 2007 at Watersound. At the time, I had no idea what was going on, but now that Camp Creek Lake has made its way into the gulf way west of where it was last year, I suspect that at the sand sink holes were probably created where the lake had pulled back...

    Great deal at Chops 30A

Best Rainbow Roll I've ever had last fall. Wonderful steaks as well. Looking forward to stopping by first week of June

    Insurance Question

We currently have a high deductible, high total plan through Royal Palm. Not sure if a good deal as we are unlikely to suffer total loss from a hurricane, and I'm concerned that even if we do, they would "adjust" the rebuild cost down from the limits. Starting to consider a low deductible...

Bottomless Waffles and Pancakes at The Gravel Road

We rode bikes there twice last week and enjoyed the outdoor patio. Wonderful breakfast. Omlettes are fantastic. The bottomless pancake offer is somewhat redundant, though. If you can make it through the large stack of pancakes (perfectly cooked with a slight crisp and wonderful taste) and...

New Short Sale Guidelines Encourage Sweeping Changes to Short Sale Process

You hit the nail on the head. I eat too much, smoke, drink, have dependents I can't financially provide for, sometimes engage in violent behavior, don't otherwise take care of any number of other issues, but I have a "right" to healthcare funded by others. We have been/are/and continue...

    A Farewell

Farewell Mike! Your passion for the nature we are fortunate to experience in South Walton and your willingness to capture and share it with us has been an inspiration. Be well always and I look forward to vicariously sharing some future adventures.

Goatfeathers Seagrove Any word on the Seagrove Goatfeathers? Wondering if it has reopened.....

Oct 2009 South Walton Sales (Homes, Condo, Townhomes)

About the same as the return on my 401k over that time frame, and a much more enjoyable place to spend vacation time. Even with the losses over the past few years, the true "value" of property on 30-a (some function of benefits/cost) would seems at least equal to other investment categories for...

    Brunch at Wild Olives

Looking forward to it; please keep the best bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit on 30-a on the menu though! (Can always have it as an appetizer for the brunch :D)

    Where to find good meat

I don't know if Modica has bone in ribeye, but I've grilled their boneless ribeye and their filet and they are fabulous. Let them know how thick you want them cut and they'll have ready for you to pick up.

Anywhere to have a good Sunday Brunch on 30A?

FIRE! Great brunch; watch out for the champagne they keep filling your glass with, it will catch up with you. The menu is terrific and food prepared very well, with good variety for adults as well as some kid/teenager choices.

    Maywethear vs. Marquez

I read on CNN/SI that Mayweather weighed in 4 pounds over limit 144. Fined $600K, but still fought. Watching the 24/7 series on HBO has made me a Mayweather fan, but this is (yet another) one of those things that make you shake your head about boxing.

    best raw oysters

Had a half dozen at Caliza a couple of weeks ago that were spectacular. Almost cancelled rest of dinner to instead just order several more courses!

    No more flies?

The measurable decrease in flies you experienced this weekend was due to the millions of them embedded onto my windshield and headlights. After about an hour drive monday, I had to stop and clean my windshield.

    Destin Chops on 30a

Enjoyed dinner at Chops very much Saturday night. Had sushi as appetizer and it was terrific. If you are not a steak fan, I'd still very much recommend stopping by the bar to sample the chef's creations. Very fresh tuna, salmon, and yellow-fin, really well done with the rice. The steaks were...

Preference: Radio or No Radio At Beach

Amen to the above; nothing better than a group setting up next to you at the beach, blaring radio (even if you like the tunes) and lighting up cigarettes. Ahh, the emerald coast!
  38. C

    La Botana

Echo above; the waitstaff are also terrific advocates for the delicious food from the kitchen and help make the dining experience very enjoyable.

    Cafe Bouchee

Agree the service is terrific and consistent (didn't Steve previously work at the Seaside cafe next to the bike shop?). The breakfast BLT is insane! Eat at your own risk, but you will enjoy every bite. The pancakes are wonderful also. Keep up the good work everyone!

    Flip Flops Burger Review

Great fan of Flip-Flop burgers as well. I hesitate to post anything negative, but we've had two terrible service experiences there this summer and have decided not to come back until the off season. Understandable can get busy at times, but 45 min -1 hour waits after ordering burgers with kids...

    Who has good creme brulee?

Agree with Beach Runner; Cafe 30-a, no doubt best we've had; certainly willing to entertain other suggestions, though, from a purely scientific standpoint.

    Best Fine Dining In Destin?

If most ordering steaks, Destin Chops is terrific!

Do you swim in October in sowal?

In 2008-09 swam every month except Jan and Feb (couldn't make it down but might have jumped in just to complete the year if we had). Pretty cold in December and March, but October (if no hurricane and flies aren't out) may be the best time of year. More pleasant on the beach then than July and...

    Mushroom Disk with Turquoise

Its a type of jelly fish - i don't have my FL beach reference book with me, but as I recall, they can have either blue or (possibly) pink tentacles. We've seen them wash up in droves on the beach at Watersound in the past. Wish we were in SoWal with my book, so I could be more specific:blush:

    emerald sky

A very comfortable 3 mile bike ride to Rosemary and about 5 miles to Seaside from the Watersound gatehouse (beautiful rooms - take time to walk/ride the watersound property while you are there). Usually need to reward oneself with a breakfast (Wild Olive, Cowgirl Kitchen, or Summer Kitchen at...

    Fine Dining Update

For "fine dining", no trip down complete without a stop at Cafe 30-a; phenomenal service and consistently wonderful food. Onano at Rosemary a favorite as well.

    Jambones Closed?

Agree only bad publicity is no publicity. When we drive down, we usually arrive around 10 pm and would love some great fried schrimp and cold beer. Wondering if teenage children appropriate dinner at that time? If so, we'll see you in a few weeks. Thanks.

    Bees are back

SJ: thanks so much. can't wait to pick some up in a few weeks when we return to our "real home". I've heard much of the help in allergy control, so I might say I'll enjoy it for medicinal purposes, but really just putting it on a biscuit and tasting the local flora will be terrific. thanks again.
