Everybody's Irish For a Day! Saturday March 18 is the 30A St Patrick's Day Parade and Festival at Gulf Place...

FESTIVAL UPDATE!

The 10th Annual St Patrick’s Parade and Festival, the largest of its kind in NW Florida, has an added feature this year. Along with the Irish bands, face painting, and of course, green beer, each ticket holder is entered into a drawing for a plot of land in North East Ireland.
Supplied by Emerald Heritage, the estate is situated in Glendun, Ireland, which is seventh of the 9 famous Glens Of Antrim and officially designated as an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Ireland. The Glens Of Antrim are one of the Ireland’s gems, where rugged, awe-inspiring coastline fuses with deep, hushed valleys. Some of the television show “Game of Thrones” was filmed in this area.

A personalized Master Title Deed will be included in the winning package along with official legal deed and documentation of land ownership. “The Protection And Enhancement Of The Irish Landscape Is The Primary Goal Of Emerald Heritage”

The largest St Patrick’s celebration in NW Florida takes place March 18th at Gulf Place and on 30a with the parade and festival. Defuniak Springs Mayor Bob Campbell will be this year’s Grand Marshal.

This was my first St. Patrick's Day Parade on 30A. Sorry, I can not truthfully say anything good about the small fiasco. It was not anything to do with the floats or their participants. The permits end, somehow left everyone hanging, by severe restrictions placed on the floats! The floats could not be run in line together, they must allow regular traffic get in! The floats were told that they could not throw any items! Traffic was not stopped, which meant only the north side of 30A was safe for the public. Hopefully, this will not happen again!

The parade did not go well this year for whatever reason... Sad. Hopefully next year will be better.

I heard the parade permits were not in hand for whatever reason and so they had to wing it by not having a parade but still driving down the road separately. But the festival was a blast. Sometimes things don't go according to plan. It's a fun local tradition and I am sure it will be back and ready to roll next year.
