The following cold weather emergency shelters will be open beginning at 5:30 p.m.
DeFuniak Springs Community Center
361 North 10th Street
DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433

The South Walton Cold Shelter located at the First Baptist Church at the Bay, 24388 South US Hwy 331, Santa Rosa Beach, FL will open Friday, December 8 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday December 9, at 5:30 p.m

Cold Weather Shelters to Open in Walton County

Walton County Emergency Management has activated the Cold Weather Emergency Shelter Plan for Walton County this evening Sunday, 10 December 2017. The following cold weather emergency shelter will be open beginning at 5:30 p.m.

DeFuniak Springs Community Center
361 North 10th Street
DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433

The National Weather Service predicts a temperature of below 40°F in Walton County. Freezing temperatures are possible late tonight through tomorrow morning, Monday, 11 December 2017.

Walton County Emergency Management will continue to monitor weather developments and make additional announcements as necessary. Please call Walton County Emergency Management at (850) 951-2017 if you have any questions.

The South Walton Cold Shelter located at the First Baptist Church at the Bay, 24388 South US Hwy 331, Santa Rosa Beach, FL will be open @ 5:30.

Volunteers are needed to be on stand by for opening the cold shelter Sunday, December 31 (New Years Eve), January 1 (New Years Day) and Tuesday (January 2). The Shelter is located at The Baptist Church on The Bay, 24388 US-331, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459. Shelter opens at 5:30 p.m. of the evening and closes by 7 a.m. the following morning. In between those hours staff assists with serving 2 hot meals, assisting with cot set up, and assisting with cleaning our areas. Anyone interested in helping us with staffing or with food donations, please comment below or in PM or texting Crystee Williams at 850-419-4763 or Frank Day at 850-974-2071.

I'm sharing this for Vortex of Volunteers who help cover staffing for the South Walton Shelter. If you can help with needed items please do what you can.

WOW!!! 2018 sure came in with a cold wet arctic roar!! Our host church The First Baptist Church on the Bay allowed us to remain open throughout the New Years Day. Anyone that needs a warm place is welcome. We are in need of some supplies: socks, plastic forks, beanies (hats), gloves, tooth brushes. Items may be dropped off at the church through 7 am Tuesday morning or any night this week after 530 pm. Thank you to all that makes this possible.
