Escape to Create artists are in residency this January and February for the 25th year in Seaside. As a residency requirement, artists give a public performance as a contribution to the community. Often produced in partnership with The REP Theater in Seaside, their readings, screenings, lectures and performances bring outstanding cultural programs to the South Walton community. Saxophonist Matt Otto and Jazz Guitarist William Flynn

A Midwest native, William Flynn is a guitarist and composer emerging onto the contemporary jazz community with an increasingly original musical voice. William currently serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz Guitar at Wichita State University, where he teaches applied jazz guitar, jazz improvisation, and directs the Guitar Ensemble.

Composer, saxophonist and bandleader Matt Otto is Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at Kansas University and Adjunct Professor at Rutgers New Brunswick. A Los Angeles native, Otto is co-founder of the esteemed L.A. Jazz Collective, an ongoing outreach program advancing young jazz composers and performers. Otto has performed internationally with a variety of leading jazz artists including Grammy nominated Anthony Wilson Nonet and Alan Ferber Big Band. His jazz quartet performs regularly in KCMO and is attributed with elevating the level of jazz through Otto’s compositions and solos “imbued with grace and serenity.”

Rich Orloff's "Radio Ridiculous"

A favorite playwright of REP audiences with sold-out performances of Skin Deep and Romantic Fools, Rich Orloff returns as the 2017 Goody Playwright to workshop RADIO RIDICULOUS, his latest comedic masterpiece created in homage to the great radio shows of the 1930’s. Script in hand readings enlivened with sound effects and live music recreate the classic suspense and side-splitting comedy of the Golden Age of radio. RADIO RIDICULOUS is a spoofs galore theatre experience for all ages. Tickets $25

Nature as inspired muse is the unifying theme of the award-winning works of New York sculptor Judith Modrak and Canadian-Finnish composer Matthew Whittall. Through image and recorded music, the artists explore their relationships with nature and how it is expressed in their creative work. Tickets $25.

Escape to Create is celebrating 25 years!
E2C is a nationally recognized multidisciplinary artist residency hosted by the Seaside community since 1993. E2C offers two month-long creative retreats every January and February.
