The Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles Volunteer Beach Ambassadors are preparing for the 2018 Beach Season and would love to have you join our team. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote sea turtle conservation through awareness and education.

If you are a local citizen of Walton County or a second home investor that spends 3 or more months here a year, we could use your help. We are a group of citizens who volunteer our time in South Walton to enhance the beach culture in our community. Our team is found on the 26 miles of South Walton beaches, along the 30A Timpoochee Trail/Multi-Use Path, walking the sidewalks of Scenic 98, and out and about at local grocery stores and restaurants; meeting and greeting visitors.

We believe that a friendly smile and a bit of education can help our visitors learn the importance of removing their trash and other beach items from the sand each day, filling in holes and flattening sand castles to protect our nesting turtles and hatchlings, and appreciate the beauty of our shore birds and marine life. In addition, we help educate guests about our Beach Activities Codes and the importance of following rules designed to protect our visitors, wildlife, and environment.

Often, we simply answer questions asked of us by curious visitors. You will find us picking up trash and filling in holes as we go. After all, we want this area to be equally beautiful for many generations to come. We are active on our beaches and trails from March 1st through October 31st and there is no required schedule or set time of commitment. Whether you give 15 minutes or 20 hours, it's up to you. We are simply appreciative of your volunteer service.

We will begin training for the 2018 season on these dates:

Saturday, February 24th, 9:00-12:00 noon, TDC Conference Center
Saturday, March 3rd, 1:00-4:00 pm, TDC Conference Center

We will then announce training dates monthly through August.

There is a $5 fee to join Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles with all monies used to further our education mission. We are sponsored by the Tourist Development Council who provide our volunteers with t-shirts, turtle flash light stickers, and training support.

We invite you to join us as we move energetically into the 2018 Beach Season. As Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Join us...we could use your help. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
