Two is a meaningful number. It takes two to tango. Tea for two.

When does two mean nothing? When it refers to the Walton County Board of County Commissioners.

Last November Melanie Nipper defeated incumbent Bill Imfeld. (The BCC then hired Imfeld to head up the Economic Development Alliance, giving him a big boost in pay.) She and Sara Comander now seem boxed out of what’s going on in Walton County. Comander recently emailed a resident, “I’m just a mushroom, kept in the dark.”

Since last November's election, when Tony Anderson defeated incumbent Cindy Meadows, Bill Chapman was re-elected, and Cecilia Jones became Chair, the BCC has become a threesome.

The recent 3-2 decision by the BCC to approve the Notice of Proposed Change (NOPC) for Sandestin Investments — against the legal opinion of Planning Department attorney, Greg Stewart — suggests Jones, Anderson, and Chapman run Walton County. And who might be persuading these three how to vote?

Anderson messed up his ballot for hiring a new Director of Planning, but they counted it anyway. Steve Bourne was the #1 candidate, but he wasn’t interested.

Mac Carpenter, #2 in the Planning Department, may get the job. But, not so fast. Cecilia Jones asked County Attorney Mark Davis if they could re-advertise the job. Davis agreed. On March 28th at the BCC, Jones made a motion to run the ad again, but the motion failed. Did Jones have someone else in mind for the job?

This is Walton County’s “As The World Turns.” A new soap opera everyday!
