Board takes fire services from sheriff

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office's five-year hold on fire services is coming to an end.
County commissioners voted 4-1 Wednesday morning to reclaim fire services from the sheriff’s office after commissioners complained of problems receiving detailed budgets and reports.
Commissioner Brian Coleman, a former sheriff's-office deputy, cast the lone no vote, though he agreed information requested by the board regarding the matter was late in arriving from the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Mike Prendergast said he was not surprised by the vote.
However, Prendergast said the meeting was billed as a workshop to discuss the fire service’s five-year plan. He said his staff wasn’t prepared to discuss specifics with commissioners.
