Public Notice: Staff Workshops on Possible Half-Cent Sales Tax for Infrastructure


You are hereby notified that the Walton County Public Works Department and other County staff will hold two Workshops on Thursday, June 15, 2017 as stated below:

  • 9:00AM - 11:00 AM at the South Walton Annex Boardroom located at 31 Coastal Centre Blvd, Santa Rosa Beach, FL

  • 1:00PM - 3:00 PM at the DeFuniak Springs Boardroom located at 571 US Highway 90, DeFuniak Springs, FL.
The purpose of this Workshop is to discuss a possible half-cent sales tax for infrastructure needs.

Please be advised that two or more Walton County Commissioners may attend this meeting. The public is invited to attend. Please be governed accordingly.

Walton County adheres to the American with Disabilities Act and will make reasonable modifications for access to the meetings upon request. Please call (850) 892-8110 to make a request. For hearing impaired, please call 1-800-955-8771 (TDD), 1-800-955-8770 (VOICE). Requests must be received at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting to allow time to provide the requested services.

"We've put together a plan for the needed infrastructure in the county and we looked hard at meeting all the needs of the county, north, and south," Public Works Program Manager Buddy Wright said.

"As of now, county officials are just presenting these ideas and welcoming public comment regarding their intentions."

County Holds Public Meetings on Potential Half Cent Infrastructure Improvements Plan

On June 15th, at the direction of the Walton County BCC, the Department of Public Works and Office of Management and Budget held two public staff workshops to present a Walton County Proposed Half Cent Sales Tax Infrastructure Improvements Plan.

During the meetings, County representatives presented the following information:

  • What is the Regional Transportation Surtax?

  • What can the Regional Transportation Surtax be used for?

  • Information Concerning ½ Cent Sales Tax

  • Transportation Improvement Categories
    • Dirt to Pave

    • Seagrove Bypass

    • Bridge Construction

    • Resurfacing/Pavement Management

    • Pavement Condition Index

    • Milled Asphalt Rejuvenation
As part of the presentation, information was given on the specific projects that will be presented to the BCC at a later meeting regarding what could be funded if the BCC decides to move forward with a referendum and if the referendum were approved by the votes.
