Beaches Of South Walton Photographs

| Walton County Commissioner Ro Cuchens surveys his project and discusses matters with Walton County code enforcement coordinator Kevin Hargett and a passerby. |

| Ro Cuchens expressed his sympathy for property owners and feels that they should be allowed to do whatever they can to save their property. He said he wished people could see the final product, which involves covering the dark soil with the lighter sand shown. When asked if he had it to do all over again would he have used a lighter colored sand in light of the controversy his reply was, “probably so”. He said that the soil in question was tested 3 times by a county engineer who deemed it appropriate, and that this would be explained at the emergency meeting called for 8/1/05. | |
| Further east, a protective wall is constructed from plastic “curtains”. | |
| Evidence of the first beach scraping approved by the State DEP. | |
| The typical soil that is being used by all of the homeowners to the east of the Blue Mountain Beach access. The sand color restrictions were relaxed in order for homeowners to shore up structures that were undermined. However, artificial dunes are being created in front of homes that do not appear to be undermined, but are in certain danger from subsequent storms. |
