30A Pet Center Offers a Full Range of Care for Precious Pets

September 23, 2014 by Manny Chavez

Any dog or cat walking into the 30A Pet Center at Gulf Place for the first time would be treated to the animal version of one stop shopping. Fido or Miss Kitty will see right away that the place caters to them. They can get it all done here - pet food & treats, pet gear, pet grooming, health care, dental work…you name it, they got it!

Julie and Tim Brown got the ball rolling four years ago with the opening of Furry Fanatics. They soon added Dapper Dogs Grooming and 30A Vet under their pet service umbrella. Furry Fanatics offers a complete line of natural pet foods and treats including Nature’s Variety raw frozen diets for dogs and cats, a wide and varied selection of supplies and novelties, and pet toys for animals large and small. Doggie bows, hair clips, functional collars by Sense-ible…all can be found here.

Dr. Tonia Shatzel, owner and operator of 30A Vet, offers a full-service vet clinic for cats and dogs providing surgery, vaccinations, heartworm and flea control and hospitalization. She also offers a very unique dental service.

”We want to help prevent complicated dental problems by using our digital dental x-rays while our pets are under anesthetics,” she says. “So many of our pets simply suffer in silence with dental disorders that can only be diagnosed through x-ray.”

Also, preventative measures include regular teeth cleaning that can be performed while the pet is still awake. “We are one of the very few vets in the Florida Panhandle that can offer this dental service,” she explains.

Prior to opening her vet clinic, Tonia published her book, The Dogs of 30A (published in 2010). The book quickly became a collector’s item for both dog lovers and lovers of photography in general. Her work on the book allowed for her to become connected to the  community and she followed with the opening of her vet business.

Tonia also treats dogs that have been abused or just need some help becoming more “socialized”.  An acknowledged “dog whisperer”, she has helped numerous canines overcome their social anxieties.  She works with the troubled dogs and their owners to help ease the animal into the human experience. Watching her work with troubled pets is a real joy. She displays an uncanny ability to communicate with them.

"Basically, we train people and rehabilitate dogs,” she laughs.

Rounding out the 30A Pet Center ensemble is Dapper Dogs Grooming, owned and operated by Monica Loveall.  She too has the ability to communicate with her animal clients, often allowing them to play openly with each other as they wait their turn at the grooming table or bath facility.

As a professional pet stylist, her grooming service includes bath and cut and nail trimming. After being styled at Dapper Dogs Grooming, the pet can trot next door to check out the latest in doggie fashion….a pink doggie bow or cool turquoise hair clip might be just the thing to finish off the look.

With all three businesses located next to each other at 56 Squires Lane on the circle in Gulf Place, 30A Pet Center represents the complete "pet concierge.” The hours for each business vary slightly from one another: Furry Fanatics is open from 10-5, Monday-Saturday, 850-278-6902, www.furry-fanatics.com. 30A Vet hours are 8-5 Monday-Friday, 850-660-1892, www.30Avet.com. Dapper Dogs Grooming hours are 8:30-4:30 Tuesday-Friday, 850-502-3433, www.furry-fanatics.com/pages/grooming-service. All three businesses can be found at www.30apetcenter.com.
