June 5, 2014 by SoWal Staff

Men, women and children of all ages are invited to don high heels for Walk Her Way at Rosemary Beach’s Town Center on Friday, June 13, 2014, at 6:30 pm. This event aims to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Will you walk in wedges? Strut in stilettos? Prance in pumps? Whatever your preference, sign up to Walk Her Way at www.walkherway.com.

Led by a New Orleans style brass band, walkers will stroll around the square in Rosemary Beach as they show off their favorite pair of high heels. The good time doesn’t stop when the walk ends. Stick around for the awards ceremony and after-party.   FREE public concert featuring Village Brass Band presented by The Merchants of Rosemary Beach.

Decorate your shoes to reflect your style and personality. Team registrations are encouraged, and awards will be given for the team that raises the most money as well as those that have the best theme and best costumes.

Advance registration is $30 for adults and $10 for children under 12 and includes a t-shirt. Registration the day of the walk will be an additional $5 per person from 5 pm to 6:15 pm.

Walk Her Way is not just a fun walk. It carries a serious message about respect and healthy relationships. Shelter House’s Clothesline Project, a touching exhibit that allows adult and child victims of domestic violence to tell their story through words and art, will be on display in Rosemary Beach on the day of the walk.

The walk will benefit Shelter House, the domestic and sexual violence center serving Okaloosa and Walton counties and Rosemary Beach Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting cultural, educational and other charitable activities in Rosemary Beach and Walton County.

“We are excited to return to Rosemary Beach for Walk Her Way,” said Shelter House Executive Director Michelle Sperzel. “Shelter House served more than 6,500 women, children and men in Okaloosa and Walton counties last year. Events like Walk Her Way allow us to spread the word to new audiences about our services and help us raise funds for critical services such as our 24/7 hotline, emergency shelter, support groups and child advocacy.”

Established in 2006, Rosemary Beach Foundation promotes and supports community events, educational projects, and charitable giving through its annual programs:  Girls Getaway, Lecture Series, Music in Pictures, Rosemary Beach Unleashed and Walk Her Way. In its eight year history, over $400,000 has been donated to local organizations.

2014 Sponsors:  Bombora Sun and Surf, Rosemary Beach Trading Company, Rosemary Beach Cottage Rental, Rosemary Beach Realty, Silver Sands Premium Outlets, Rosemary Beach Racquet Club, The Merchants of Rosemary Beach.
