72 Hours in South Walton - Day One

March 9, 2015 by SoWal Staff

On day one, begin your stay in the community of Watercolor with over 500 charming coastal cottages surrounded in a natural Floridian setting. With just a short bike ride to Seaside, Watercolor is the perfect escape for couples and families alike.

You’ve settled in and now you’re hungry. Your first meal should be memorable! Wine World in Watercolor offers Mediterranean style food and gourmet cheeses, sandwiches, fire roasted pizzas, and Atlantic salmon. We recommend their charcuterie board with assorted fruit, nuts, olives, salami and fresh baked bread. White or red? Now you can have both with over 1000 wines from around the world! Enjoy alfresco dining under string lights and take in the view – the palm trees never get old!

If seafood is what you crave, Fish Out of Water at the Watercolor resort is one for the books! Known for its fresh seafood, start with their crab cakes or a Sautéed shrimp cocktail. For dinner, try their Sushi menu, Big eye Tuna, or Gulf Red Snapper. The best part of all? Enjoy your meal by the outdoor fire pits, or upstairs for waterfront dining. The choice is yours!

Then make your way to one of the best places for watching sunsets: Western Lake, a coastal dune lake in Grayton Beach that’s completely picture worthy. Stand along the bridge and watch the light show of vivid pinks and reds paint the water. Better yet, rent a kayak and anchor down. Don’t forget your camera! Our sunsets are worth remembering.

Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean the party stops! Bud and Alley’s is a great place to enjoy cocktails with friends. It might be the oldest restaurant in Seaside, but don’t doubt its innovative drinks! You can’t leave without trying the Seaside Punch: peach, apple, sour, pineapple juice and vodka. For appetizers, their smoked tuna dip is a local legend and there’s no question that the restaurant's roof top bar has the best gulf view in town.
