Camellia Festival at Eden Gardens State Park Feb 18

February 17, 2017 by SoWal Staff

Friends of Eden Gardens State Park are preparing for the annual celebration of the revered Camellias gracing the grounds of our unique park in Old Point Washington.

The annual Camellia Festival is Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 am - 2 pm. Floral demonstrations and presentations will be held throughout the day, and live music will be performed by The Steenos from 11 am until 1pm. Everyone is invited to stroll through beautiful camellias in full bloom in gardens throughout the park. Camellias, air layered from Eden Gardens plants, will be available for purchase from the nursery. Watch for actors in period dress in the park! Food provided by Dog Mandu and Dovalina's Pizza.

Come spend time in the gardens with your family and friends for the annual Eden Gardens State Park Camellia Festival. The festival will include demonstrations on camellia floral arrangement, air layering, (a camellia propagating technique), and camellia waxing for bloom preservation.  Attend a program on camellia care and other plant related topics by Marie Harrison, a Master Gardener and author.

Our favorite SoWal State Park for taking a break from the beach is the spectacular Eden Gardens State Park on Tucker Bayou in Point Washington. Drive straight up Scenic Hwy 395 from Seagrove Beach, across Hwy 98 and you'll see the entrance up on the left.

The focal point of the park is the Wesley house, a beautifully renovated, two-story house with elegant white columns and wraparound porch complete with rocking chairs. Surrounded by moss-draped live oaks and ornamental gardens, the Wesley house inspires visions of hoop skirts and landed gentry. It's a favorite place for weddings and other events, and includes a covered stage for performances, a large screened pavilion, and bricked areas under the oaks for giant event tents.
