February 18, 2014 by SoWal Staff

Alaqua Animal Refuge and HEART Animal Rescue, two local non-profit organizations dedicated to the care and shelter of homeless animals, are teaming up for the first annual Furry Fest, a fun, fund-raising effort for two and four legged friends to benefit the two organizations.

Furry Fest will be held at Gulf Place on Saturday, February 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The inaugural festival will feature live music, food, local vendors, silent auction, children’s activities, adoptable pets, wiener dog races, human and dog costume contest, dog contests and demos, and a entire day of fun in the beautiful setting of Gulf Place Amphitheater. Festival music performed by Kristen Barkuloo, KC Phelps, Andy Durand & Gary Clark, and Max & the Displacements.

The event is sponsored Gulf Place, Resort Resale, Harmony Beach Vacations, and 30A Group.

Festival organizers are accepting applications for sponsors, vendors, and donations for the silent auction booth. Those interested in participating or donating should contact April Madr at april.madr@gmail.com. Follow Furry Fest on facebook for updates. Make plans to bring your favorite furry friend and your family to Gulf Place for lots of entertaining furry fun!
