Grand Opening of Gaffrey's Curate in Rosemary Beach May 20

May 11, 2016 by Sarah Robertson

Much of art's beauty comes from the emotion and story of its maker. This is what South Walton's beloved artist Justin Gaffrey hopes his newest gallery in Rosemary Beach will convey. Celebrating artisans worldwide, Curate is all about sourcing and showcasing unique, one-of-a-kind works. Justin explained that Curate is a celebration of the story of process.

The community is invited to the Grand Opening party Friday, May 20... from 5:30 til 7:30 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the new Rosemary Beach gallery.

“With Curate, I am exploring my own designing and creative process along with collaborating with other hand-made artist and makers” he shared.

The space hopes to introduce South Walton area visitors and locals to the makers of unique and intricate pieces from all over the world. Curate features artisans like Rose + Fitzgerald – a Californian husband and wife team who source fair trade wares such as baskets, trays, and candle holders from Uganda. What a thrill to find such global workmanship in our area.

When asked how to describe his favorite materials to use, Justin said “ I love nature and the impact it has on my life. I started creating nests about 5 years ago and this began a more organic art form. In the last few years I've also been welding steel and using string to represent my feelings about these pieces.”

Justin says his career is coming full circle with the creation of works that coordinate with his former position as a chef. “I have tapped into an old passion of mine, building with my hands. I now have a one of a kind furniture collection of tables and light pieces. I am also exploring the creation of smaller and culinary inspired pieces to showcase in Curate.”

Be sure to follow the gallery as “Meet the Maker” events are announced. The idea is for visitors to spend time with the artisans themselves, learning about the process and materials they use to work their magic.

Curate's Grand Opening is planned for Friday, May 20 from 5:30-7:30pm. Come out to see the unique collaboration by Justin Gaffrey. Guests will enjoy a live painting demonstration by Justin Gaffrey, live music by Kyle Paxton, light bites from The Pearl's Havana Beach Bar and Grill and Restaurant Paradis, signature cocktails by Southern Luxury and Chaste 850, cold brews by Grayton Beer Company, a commemorative gift for the first 50 in attendance and a raffle for a 18X24 piece of Justin's art. In celebration of the Grand Opening, 15% of all purchases on Friday, May 20, 2016, will benefit the Rosemary Beach Foundation.

Curate is more than an storefront. It is a creative endeavor that encourages artistic exploration for all who visit the space. Visit Curate on Main Street in Rosemary Beach (just across the street from The Pearl Hotel).
