Grouper Groupies in SoWal

October 1, 2012 by Larry Pentel

The Grouper bite had been nothing short of fantastic the past 10 days. Lots of fish, some days Reds, the next Gags and lots of days, both chewin' hard. The only downside to this bite has been all the hooks I have had to tie on due to fish lost in the bottom!

Today's Great Catch-- yep, that's "Mr Goatfeathers" proving yet again that not only can he sell fresh Grouper at the market, serve it cooked in the restaurant, he aint bad at catchin' 'em either-- he limited out with 2 Gags and 2 Reds AND he got that 27 pound King as well.-- his buddies are getting better though!

This group of local regulars loves to catch Gags. After they limited out, a couple of 'em caught 4 more just to release while the other got Vermillions for the table.

These 2 guys didn't bring the kids but wanted a bull shark (bad!). They got to fight 4 of 'em in between catching all those Groupers and King on a 6 hour trip.

This couple always goes fishin' the same time every year, so " Birthday Bob" can shoot at Groupers with great accuracy this year!

This couple was down to celebrate an anniversary. The husband wanted Groupers and the Wife wanted Triggers... They both got a treat!

This group brought light spinning rods and jigs so we went and chased the Amberines. Had to harass a few Grouper as well though.....

This group had bought a trip I had donated to a local fundraiser. They had originally booked during Snapper season, but got weathered out. I don't think they missed much with a catch like this on a 3 hour trip!

More happy anglers with some fine Groupers.

After being MIA up in close, the Kings have started to show back up on the beach the past 2 days though, and while not hot yet, there have been more Flounders caught while bottom fishing the past few days, as well. As long as we keep this wonderful fall weather, there should be lots of finny critters to catch for the foreseeable future.

Get out there and catch some!
