Poetry Group Holds Multi-Media Poetry Show & Benefit at Hidden Lantern December 21
December 6, 2012 by SoWal Staff
“Say the Word” Poetry Group is celebrating this Winter Solstice in a very unique way at the Hidden Lantern in Rosemary Beach. On December 21 at 6:00pm, the group is putting on a multi-media poetry show titled “The Longest Night”, featuring talented local artists, musicians, and poets collaborating to create a one of a kind, spoken word performance to benefit a local non-profit, BeGenerous, serving underprivileged women and children in need in the community.
The show, will also launch the fact that the Hidden Lantern Bookstore & Art Gallery is supporting local poets and artists within the community by carrying self-published poetry chapbooks by local writers.
“We’re excited to not only promote the performance of these talented local artists, but also the Hidden Lantern and BeGenerous” says Maria Schabla, Founder of “Say the Word” Poetry.
The event will include a musical intermission by local artist, Shank, a silent art auction for pieces donated by collaborating artists, as well as a live art auction for art created during the event. Beer & wine will be available for donations.
About "Say the Word"
“Say the Word” is a collective group of poets and spoken word artists dedicated to creating a platform for poets and spoken word artists to perform, encouraging local writers to collaborate and network, and making poetry more viable in the community by hosting monthly open mic nights. The monthly open mic nights occur on the third Wednesday of every month at Buddha Lounge in Blue Mountain Beach, beginning at 9:00pm. Poets mostly perform original works, but are also encouraged to share other poems that inspire them.
