ProHealth Offers Affordable Medical Lab Work and Immunizations

November 16, 2012 by Marla Burns

Many of us take our overall health for granted until we are forced to pay attention to it.  Most all of us would like to do whatever it takes to stay healthy and prevent illness, but some lack medical insurance, have very high deductibles, or just don’t have the funds to see a doctor on a regular basis. ProHealth offers a convenient and low cost way to take care of ourselves without breaking the bank.

ProHealth first opened its doors in 1985, when Registered Nurse, Vivian Krumel, decided that other people’s wellness was at the top of her wish list.  With 30 years of nursing experience, she started the business out of her home with the emphasis on insurance paramedical exams. Vivian believes “As a registered nurse, I have always looked at prevention as a means to better health rather than treatment”. Her vision was to work diligently for the people of Northwest Florida, and to positively impact the health of her clients.

Vivian’s daughters, Debbie and Danette, later joined the team and today this family owned business boasts five satellite offices in Santa Rosa Beach, Ft. Walton, Pensacola, Crestview, and Milton.  They’ve expanded to include a full range of medical services that include lab work, immunizations, DNA paternity testing, and drug testing.

Our South Walton community is conveniently served out of the Santa Rosa Beach office that’s located just one mile past Sacred Heart Hospital, at 1131 Mack Bayou Road.  Registered Nurse, Arlene Newsome has been at this location since it opened in 2009.  “ProHealth provides a clean, safe and non-judgmental environment for people to come and receive needed testing or immunizations” says Arlene.  “This is a great service for the community, because there are so many uninsured or underinsured folks that need a place to go for low cost lab work, so that their doctor can determine the best method of treatment”.

Arlene understands how difficult it is for some to take the needle stick required for testing.  Her office provides a calm, quiet setting and she utilizes aromatherapy, such as lavender oil, as a natural calming agent to help “take the edge off” her client’s anxieties.  Lavender oil has a calming effect without using sedation.  “Patients who are calmer tend to experience less pain”, says Arlene.

Word on the street is that Nurse Newsome has one of the lightest touches in the business and can therefore offer testing with minimal, if any, pain and some experience no pain at all.  In fact, Arlene stated “I had a client that came in for a Tetanus shot, and afterward questioned me as to whether he’d actually received the shot, because he felt no pain whatsoever.”
