Sarah Carolyn Shines at McCaskill & Company

Walking into Sarah Carolyn at McCaskill & Company, I am greeted by a tiny woman in a crisp white shirt with blonde hair and a bright smile. We have never met, but that does not seem to matter. I am offered a beverage and receive the complete Southern treatment, sprinkled with delicate y’alls and dainty pearls. I am convinced that Reese Witherspoon would play Carolyn Brigman, the store’s owner and buyer in her biopic.
I introduce myself and take a moment to soak in the splendor of the gallery of jewelry in front of me. Leather bracelets studded with cerulean stones and pearls, exquisite silver and gold rosary inspired necklaces, enchanting gold crocheted wire pieces, and sparkling crystals on delicate chains surround me. The store is so well put together, that I do not feel like I am in a retail environment, rather that I am in a gallery where each section seems to have a different origin, and yet it all seems to flow wonderfully.
Carolyn tells me that her main inspiration comes from art that she finds everywhere she travels and allows that to guide her in choosing what to feature in her store. She handpicks each piece herself to ensure that they meet the quality and individuality of her clientele.
She brings in pieces from around the world, but also features several local artists. The store is filled with unique fashion and statement pieces, as well as delicate pieces for the daintier at heart. Alexis Bittar, Alex & Ani, Mariposa Designs (local artist), and Virgins, Saints & Angels are just a few of the exclusive designers Sarah Carolyn features. Whether you are looking for a trendy piece for your sweetheart or something timeless for your grandmother, Sarah Carolyn is where you want to shop.
But it is not just about the jewelry. Carolyn says exceptional customer service is tantamount to the quality of the pieces. She genuinely cares that each person who walks through the towering glass door and that they leave feeling young and beautiful.
Another added bonus is the price point. Prices average between $75 and $300, making this affordable for all. It is clear that Carolyn’s passion for meeting her patron’s individual stylistic needs is paramount. When I ask if there are any plans for the future, she coyly hints that she might consider expanding to second location.
With Carolyn’s infectious charm and ambition, it is simple to become enthralled in the idea and ask how she plans to accomplish such an undertaking. She delightfully responds, “If you love what you do, you’ll find a way to make it work.”
Sarah Carolyn is located in the same building as McCaskill & Company at 13390 Hwy 98, Destin, FL 32541. The store is open Monday thru Saturday from 10 a.m until 5:30 p.m.
