Seaside REP Cranking Up 2012 Schedule

April 2, 2012 by Marla Burns

The Seaside Repertory Theater’s event schedule gives the SoWal community a wide variety of entertainment options in 2012. The REP‘s events will be performed at various venues along scenic 30A, and will provide solid enjoyment for area residents and visitors. Their new season showcases theater and music at its best, and for all ages.

The REP recently hosted 30A Songwriters Festival favorite Chas Sandford, who played to a sold out house at the Seaside Meeting Hall Theater. Upcoming concerts include Darden Smith on April 9, The Electric Hearts on April 27, and on May 8, you won’t want to miss another area favorite, Gretchen Peters. Tickets for the concerts are $20-$30, a small price to pay for such unique and intimate performances.

For those with children, The REP presents plays that are sure to captivate the imagination of your little ones. The following is the current schedule of free upcoming events for The REP’s summer children’s series of plays.

River Rat and Cat

 Alys Beach, Mondays March 5-April 2 @ 5:00pm; Thursdays May 31-August 9 @ 6:30pm

And for the serious theater goer, The REP has a terrific line up in 2012, starting with “The 39 Steps”, a fast paced mix of a Hitchcock thriller with the dry British wit of Monty Python. This production will be a treat for anyone who loves a good, absurd whodunit. Here’s what’s currently on the REP Theater’s schedule that you’ll want to add to your calendars:

The 39 Steps
Thursdays-Saturdays June 21-July 28 @ 7:30pm

Den of Thieves
Thursday-Saturday Sept 27-Oct 20 @ 7:30pm

Every Christmas Story Ever Told
December, schedule tba

For this year’s fundraiser coming up on April 20, the Seaside Repertory Theater will take us back in time to Prom Night. The event takes place at the Rosemary Beach Town Hall, from 7:00-11:00pm. Local candidates compete for the title of prom king and queen to be crowned that night. The king and queen are voted for via donations. Supporters can vote with their dollars on line and at various locations around South Walton.  Whoever raises the most money wins, with proceeds going to benefit The REP.

Candidates for queen are Shelly Swanger, Jackie Ward, Shannon Day, Linda Miller, and Memori Spence. Candidates for king are Kevin Boyle, Bobby Johnson, Colby Mitchell, and Dread Clampitt's Balder Saunders.

The previous REP “prom” event, held at the Seaside Lyceum in 2008, was a resoundingly successful fundraiser for the REP. They’re hopeful this year’s competition will stir even more interest for their company, whose mission is to entertain and spark our imaginations.

Seaside REP memberships, which start at $60 entitle theater goers to 20% off Mainstage performances and advance notice of select shows. For more information and tickets please visit The REP’s website.
