Thankful For All The Fish

November 26, 2011 by Larry Pentel

Hard to believe it's been a couple weeks since my last fishin' report. Gag grouper season closed with the surf being to big to be able to fish the last day. I did get one last trip in before it closed with some folks that had a blast. They fished with me two days in a row and we chased totally different fish each day. The first day was Flounder and Jacks and the second we targeted Groupers with lots of bites and a great box of fish.

Not bad for a 1/2 day at the "end' of the season

During the slower winter season the week of Thankgiving always has
the beaches here in South Walton looking like summer again with lots of
folks spending their family time at the beach. No only is it nice for
all the families that get to come but it also gives the locals some
winter business and me a chance to take folks out fshin'

I had one family group that LOVES to fish book me for several days
this past week. While the crew changed up some each day everybody caught
fish and had a blast. With Groupers and Snappers closed what do do? Why
go catch Jacks and Triggers of course !

The "kid" day- No parents.. I think they did better than with the older folks!

Okay, gotta do something a little different the next day out. Let's see if the Flounders are biting.

Another Great Board

Just 'cause Gags are closed doesn't mean they quit biting. This young
man caught 4 right nice ones including a couple in the 15# range as
well as this one below

He had to throw this one back but he did get to keep a nice Red Grouper earlier.

Lots of families- even the ones that aren't hard core fishheads
getting in on the action. These folks quit fishin' cause they were beat
from catching Jacks. I love it when the Amberines show up . Hard
fighters and great fryers ! Makes my job a lot easier .

Fish for Thanksgiving !

The flounder bite should stay on for another couple weeks. While they aren't red hot everyday they sure are fun when they are!

Another bunch of fish dinners in waiting.

I'm back to boat chores for the next couple days and then off to
Indian Pass for my first charters of the Fall/Winter over there next
Fri., Sat.& Sun.. As much fun as these Jacks and Flounders are I am
looking forward to sightfishing some Redfish. So many options.. so
little time.

Get out there and exercise some fishing options!
