The Green Owl in Seagrove Beach is Full of Inspiration

June 29, 2017 by Kerri Parker

This morning I ventured out to explore The Green Owl in Seagrove Plaza. The South Walton shop is right on Scenic 30A, but tucked away in a small space. I found The Green Owl to be truly unique and overflowing with inspiration from Owner Stephanie Anklier's vision.

“I like simple,” says Stephanie. "Our products are organic, Fair Trade, and contain no harmful ingredients. "

Sometimes simple visions are the most inspiring! Stephanie's vision has come to life through her careful curation of a high-quality mix of products that are beautiful, practical, earth-friendly, purposeful, and often whimsical.

The Green Owl is immediately aromatic - candles, lotions, children’s playful bath soaps - the shop has a variety of apothecary for the young, and the young at heart. All soap varieties are handcrafted and beautifully designed. The tower of soaps stacked in their bulk form is a sight to see. Once you have selected your favorite scent, Stephanie and her team carefully ‘chop it’ from the block and package it. The process is an event!

Formerly a nurse, Stephanie’s last patient was her mother, who not long ago lost her battle with breast cancer. Her mother often had pain in her feet due to chemotherapy.  From the experience of soothing her mother's pain, she now carries an assortment of Footscicle products that are travel size, and easy to apply.

“I made this foot-lotion stick for my mom. The peppermint  helps soothe pain, and it also relieves headaches,” says Stephanie.

I take note that each product we examine is meaningfully handcrafted, named, and packaged to serve a greater good. While Stephanie speaks of simplicity, I can’t help but think how intricate the process actually must be, to bring such purposeful products to SoWal. Stephanie points out a photo of a woman in West Africa who churns indigenous fruit into shae butter. She makes special batches and ships them directly to The Green Owl here in South Walton.

Stephanie spins around to show us the most popular item in her store - the Turkish robe. On the rack, the robe feels starchy because it hasn't been washed. But after washing, they become irresistibly soft. Stephanie keeps a washed sample on hand to help illustrate how the fabric changes after washing. With an assortment of appealing colors, you'll find yourself wrapped up in your Turkish robe all year round.

“Turkish towels are on point,” says Stephanie. “There are so many qualities to these towels that are remarkable but the short story is – they are amazing! They are loomed with 100% Turkish cotton and hand tied. The colors never run, and the more you wash them, the softer they become. They naturally repel sand and never mold making them the perfect towel for a beach lover."

There is more to The Green Owl than meets the eye. Stephanie has a popular online store and a dynamic blog she consistently updates. You can follow Stephanie and The Green Owl on several different sites, including Facebook and Pinterest.
