Time: 12:00 am to 11:45 pm

The Seaside Institute presents the Creative Writing Workshop with John Dufresne Feb. 7-9, 2018 in Seaside, Florida. The short fiction workshop will meet from 9 am to Noon to discuss the stories you have written. John will lecture on narrative techniques and the fiction writing process and will help overcome your concerns about writing and storytelling. Writing exercises designed to give imaginations opportunities will complement the workshop.

John will meet individually in conference with each student. In the late afternoon, students will gather for social time and informal discussions of the writing business. "You will come to the conference with an agenda—what it is you hope to learn—and we will do our best to see that your agenda is met,” says John.

The workshop is limited to twelve writers with short story manuscripts (25 pages or less, please). A reduced rate is offered to those who do not yet have a completed story, and would like to attend and experience a workshop. Class Times: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Tuition with Manuscript: $450
Tuition without Manuscript: $350
To register for the workshop, please contact Kim Bradley: sodade@bellsouth.net

Accommodations are booked through the Seaside Institute. Registrants are housed in a Seaside home, along with John Dufresne and other workshop participants. Cottages are available in the Academic Village, for those who wish to have private accommodations.

John Dufresne is the author of five novels: Louisiana Power & Light, Love Warps the Mind a Little (both New York Times Notable Books of the Year), Deep in the Shade of Paradise, Requiem, Mass., and No Regrets, Coyote.  He also wrote two short story collections: The Way That Water Enters Stone and Johnny Too Bad and three chapbooks: Lethe, Cupid, Time and Love; Well Enough Alone; and I Will Eat a Piece of the Roof and You Can Eat the Window. John has two books on writing and creativity: The Lie That Tells a Truth: a Guide to Writing Fiction and Is Life Like This?: a Guide to Writing Your First Novel in Six Months. John was a 2012-13 Guggenheim Fellow and teaches in the MFA program at Florida International University in Miami.
