Hands Across the Sand | A worldwide gathering of people dedicated to a clean energy future and ending our dependence on filthy fuels
Hands Across the Sand 2018
Hands Across The Sand is held annually in Florida and on beaches, waterways and land all around the world. The event is intended to bring awareness about the dangers inherent in securing and burning dirty fuels and to champion a new era of Clean Energy for a sustainable planet for our children and theirs.
“Our planet depends on our continued activism in order to ensure it will be here for future generations.” Dede Shelton, Executive Director. Hands Across The Sand
Hands Across the Sand was founded in 2010 by restaurateur, Dave Rauschkolb of Seaside, Florida. The grew into an international movement after the BP oil disaster in April of that year. People around the world, came together to join hands, forming symbolic barriers against spilled oil and standing against the impacts of other forms of extreme energy.
The mission of Hands Across the Sand is to bring together individuals and organizations to promote a clean energy future across the world and end our dependence on dirty fuels. It is our goal to gather thousands of Americans and global citizens at beaches and cities to draw metaphorical and actual lines in the sand,,, human lines in the sand against fossil fuels that threaten our future.
Eight years later, we invite activists to call for the President to maintain the Paris Climate Accord, reject offshore drilling, the KXL and other tar sands pipelines, hydraulic fracking, seismic air gun blasting and call on local and state leaders to protect our communities by rejecting projects that expand the extraction and use of fossil fuels — and instead accelerate the shift to clean, renewable energy.
In 2017, we had 112 events around the Globe. There were events in Belize, Canada, Egypt, Australia and New Zealand. Around the United States, there were events in Florida, one being held at Ed Walline State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, California, Colorado, Connecticut, DC, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Washington. Miami has held the record for the largest event, last year 500+ people joined hands up and down Miami Beach.
The 2018 event date is May 19th and we already have 14 events entered on the web page including one in Bangladesh. It’s a simple 15-minute event and we provide training, and all the resources needed to organize a successful event by visiting; Hands Across the Sand | A worldwide gathering of people dedicated to a clean energy future and ending our dependence on filthy fuels.
“It’s the most important thing we can do as human beings” – Dave Rauschkolb, founder.
