Time: 9:00 am to 10:45 am
Where: Public Beach Accesses: see description

International Coastal Cleanup returns to South Walton on Saturday, September 21st from 9-11 am. This year Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles and Walton County will be hosting the event at 4 Regional Beach Access points with easily available parking, bathrooms and easy boardwalk access to the beach.

Our community is joining forces with millions of people world wide to clean shores. It's a really Big Deal and we invite you to join us in this massive effort to improve our beach environment which will help protect our marine life and natural coastal settings.

All you have to do is pick your location of choice, arrive 15 minutes early to register, and bring your own personal items (water bottle, sun screen, hat, etc). Trash bags, gloves, tally sheets and pencils will be provided. ICC t-shirts available on a First come basis.

If you are able please bring a child size shelling net, available at any souvenir shop for about $4, so that we can sift small particles of colored plastic out of our sand. It’s these small particles that our birds and marine life eat, mistaking them for food. It clogs their stomachs and they die from starvation. If you have a shelling net or can get one, bring it to Sift the Sand. This item is Not Required to participate.

OCEAN CONSERVANCY

International Coastal Cleanup is a World Wide Event sponsored by Ocean Conservancy.

Every year during Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup®, hundreds of thousands of volunteers comb lakes, rivers and beaches around the world for trash. For over three decades, more than 12 million volunteers have collected over 220 million pounds of trash.

Join the wave. Next time you’re headed out to the beach or a nearby park, download Ocean Conservancy’s app, Clean Swell and take along a trash bag to collect and document the debris you find.

Feeling more ambitious? Recruit friends and family to join you in a larger cleanup. Explain to them that no matter where you live—whether on the coast or hundreds of miles inland—all waterways lead to the ocean. But if we take action and work together, we can improve the ocean’s health and make trash free seas a reality.
