The Seaside Institute presents Let's Talk, our monthly community discussion, on Thursday, July 20 from 4-6pm. July's topic is Aging With Grace with Sue Kullen leading the discussion. We would all like to live out the remainder of our lives in our home, instead of "the" home. Let's talk about what we can do as individuals and as a community to age in place. Sue Kullen is Project Director of Aging With Grace Project at Seaside Institute.

Last December, we kicked off our 30A Aging With Grace Project at a Let’s Talk event. More than 20 people, including a doctor, dentist, senior support professional, housing experts, fitness experts, board members and even community co-founder, Daryl Davis, were in attendance to share their interest and ideas for this movement. Our new Aging With Grace Project Director, Sue Kullen, led the presentation. Kullen, who has served two terms in the Maryland House of Delegates and served on the Health and Government Operations Committee, shares our vision that we should be actively pursuing initiatives within our communities to ensure that we enjoy the last 10 years of our lives in OUR home, instead of “THE” home. “In every great community everyone belongs,” Kullen said. “This is the belief that drives the 30A Alliance Aging with Grace Project. Baby boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, are living longer, and, according to AARP, almost 90% want to live in their own homes. We all benefit when we integrate the strength, capabilities and expertise of older people into our communities. To do this we need to figure out how to make our communities as senior friendly, as we are kid friendly. Adopting the concept of ‘silver architecture,’ which is both beautiful and functional, will accommodate all who choose to live out their lives in 30A communities. We need to support people to stay healthier longer and develop the resources people may need in their neighborhoods as they live longer.” The 30A Aging With Grace Project will strive to provide a place of innovation and support for people of all ages, as well as their caretakers and healthcare providers. As with most of our initiatives, we strongly encourage the community to get involved. Help us to develop this project by volunteering, joining a committee, sponsoring or speaking at our events.
