Works of Fiction and Poetry: A Writer’s Perspective is a presentation by visiting Escape to Create authors on Tuesday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the Library Meeting Room.

Sonya Chung
Critically praised as an exciting new voice in fiction, Goodreads and Amazon starred fiction writer Sonya Chung has published two novels: Long For This World (a compelling story of a struggling family straddling cultures…a piercing and profoundly humane first novel.”) and The Loved Ones (“…a masterful novel of inheritance and loss…spanning generations and divergent cultures...”) Chung teaches Fiction and Literature of Childhood & Youth at Skidmore College and also teaches the MFA writing program at Warren Wilson College. Chung will read selections from her published and new works that illuminate the complexities and richness of family bonds.

Heather Sellers
Heather Sellers’ first book Georgia Underwater was part of the Barnes and Noble Great New Writers Program. Her memoir You Don’t Look Like Anyone I Know is the story of her coming to terms with the rare neurological disorder prosopagnosia, or face blindness. Sellers has appeared on major media outlets such as NPR, Good Morning America and The Today Show. A professor of English at University of Southern Florida, she speaks at colleges, universities and medical schools across the country. Sellers will read selections from her unusual and uncommonly moving memoir-with-a-twist that gives new meaning to hindsight, insight, trust and forgiveness.

This program offers high value to readers and writers of engaging fiction, family relationships and memoir.

We hope you will join us throughout January when Escape To Create artists in residency in Seaside, visit the Coastal Branch Library with a presentation of awarded fine art photography, performance of timeless classical chamber music and awarded writers reading critically praised works of fiction and memoir. Free and open to the public. Learn more at SoWal Community Forums | Escape to Create 2020.
