Dear people who drive diesel trucks:

Please turn them off when you decide just to jump out of your truck for a minute. Not everyone likes to listen to your huge engine running while it's sitting there empty. Making loud noise. Annoying everyone who has to sit there and listen to it. Not to mention wasting gas and making the parking lot smell bad.

Sincerely:

Everyone how drives smaller cars and do not leave them running.

One of the drawbacks of a diesel is it is bad to turn them off. It cause more damage than good unless you have a hot start. I did however for the first time see 3 truckers right off the interstate with their engines off. Fuel is getting that crazy.

I didn't realize until recently that a lot of states have laws about idling; the one in Missouri stipulates a very short time, can't remember what it is right now, but it really surprised me. Idling cars are bad for the environment, and now it's just too expensive to waste the gas. And before someone tries to trot out the old statistic about it takes more gas to turn a car off and on again than to let it run--if you're going to be sitting still for any more than 30 seconds, it's better to turn the car off.

It's the next status symbol. I'm amazed at the number of tourists that do it so it won't get hot for little bat turds. Here's a towel throw it on that leather seat problem solved.

GRS, this is what Mr. IBD told me as well. If he is planning on going somewhere soon he would just rather have his truck sit running in the driveway for 10 minutes.

The trucks are noisy though which is good. I can hear him coming down the road and get off sowal in time to make it look like I am cleaning or something when he walks in...:rotfl:

There use to be a Florida statute to that effect.

After reading the various discussions about local issues and looking at the cars parked where the shadow of the "no parking" sign falls on them, I get the sense that there is an unenforced statute that covers every irksome situation.
