This year, the emphasis of the Seaside Institute's three-day symposium will be Transforming Communities Through New Urbanism: After a Natural Disaster. Hurricanes devastate many communities, and in 2018 our region was impacted by Hurricane Michael. From September 14 - 16, hear from experts, mayors, and more on how they achieve results in their community!

No offense, but it's ironic that the only people who can afford a home in a new urbanism community like Seaside are probably millionaires.
Our neighborhood back home is based on Seaside. There are apartments and 1 block of section 8. Of course, we aren't on the beach (Louisville KY). There are $1million + homes in the neighborhood too. Not gated. Everything except the pools are open for everyone to enjoy, playgrounds, trails, concerts, street parties. During the recession people couldn't 'give away houses' but now there are some grand interiors.

It didn't start that way or intend it to be that way. The principles are valid even if Seaside is not a typical example. Tourist destinations create something aberrant. Always have.
