As you all may know, I am currently writing a policy analysis paper for coastal dune lake conservation and will have a manuscript ready by November 30th. I hope to have the paper published in the Journal Planning. I should share my outline here...

1) Coastal dune lakes are unique. Rare. Not 'unique', I hate that word. It implies that they can only be found here. Accourding to the CBA similar lakes can be found in the Northwest, Madagascar, New Zealand, and Australia.
2) The coastal dune lakes of South Walton County are healthy
ecosystems. No. Not as healthy as they should be.
3) Lake outfalls should be allowed to open naturally. Yes. But I understand why people want to sneak into Grayton all stealth and open the lake. Hurricanes and other smaller storms have changed the elevation near the opening and they want to 'help' it along...much in the same way when we see a struggling animal in the wild we have the urge to assist it eventhough we know that it is better to allow nature to take its course.
4) I feel like the coastal dune lakes of South Walton County are a part of me. Born here. Not leaving. Every part of this county is a part of me. Heck, I even claim Rock Hill.
5) The shorelines around the coastal dune lakes are underdeveloped. I can't even wrap my brain around this one.
6) Human activities are impacting coastal dune lake ecosystems. Yes.
7) Folks in South Walton County know a lot about coastal dune lakes. We don't know jack.
8) There are enough regulations to protect coastal dune lakes from
environmental harm. I am with Sj on this one. No one to enforce them.
9) The lake should be managed to maximize human use and
satisfaction. No. No way. Define 'human us and satisfaction' and you will spell trouble.
10) South Walton County would not be the same without coastal dune lakes. true that.

Thanks for posting.:welcome:

1) Coastal dune lakes are unique.
They are unique in my life.

2) The coastal dune lakes of SoWal are healthy
ecosystems.
As far as I know.

3) Lake outfalls should be allowed to open naturally.
Agree.

4) I feel like the coastal dune lakes of SoWal are a part of me.
And I am part of them.

5) The shorelines around the coastal dune lakes are underdeveloped.
Implying they should be developed?

6) Human activities are impacting coastal dune lake ecosystems.
Yes.

7) Folks in SoWal know a lot about coastal dune lakes.
We know a lot about their beauty but maybe not the ecology.

8) There are enough regulations to protect coastal dune lakes from
environmental harm.
If not I hope there will be. I would like to see a "zero-impact policy" with no runoff and a large buffer.

9) The lake should be managed to maximize human use and
satisfaction.
I'm not sure what this means.

10) SoWal would not be the same without coastal dune lakes.
True.
