Party With Purpose
Mark your calendars to attend what may well be the party of the season Sunday, Sept. 28. A group of area women decided to host this party with a two-fold purpose in mind: that of bringing all their friends together for a good time, while raising funds to assist local gal pal and resident Donna Johns, who is battling breast cancer.

The party will feature all the ingredients for an exciting evening around the pool with music, food, a bar, and silent auction. Some of those who have already donated to the silent auction include Fabs in Seaside, Flemings, Healing Art Acupuncture, Panera Bread Company, Salon Twist, Yacht to Sea Destin dinner cruise, Destin Plastic Surgery, Art from Didon Comer, Cuvee Beach, Village Boutique, CoCo and Company, Frank's Cash and Carry, Nelson Davis with a two nights' stay at the Coalson Plantation, Eddie Ford with a Cessna 157 sunset flight, Destin Commons, Three night's stay at The Palms, Karisma, KK Blevins/BeachFunk, Mary Schmiedicke/Wireglass, Red Bar, Pandora's, Vint'j, Fast Attack Fishing Charter, The Old Florida Fish House, and Carey Dowdle. Many more surprises are in the offing!

Donna was recently diagnosed with cancer after having had her annual mamogram. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and will be in treatment with probable surgeries and radiation for the next 18 months or more. Those who know Donna recognize that she is normally very active in the community but the chemo treatments this summer have forced Donna to place her social and professional involvements on hold.

"When a girlfriend is diagnosed with breast cancer those close to her gather around wanting to do something to help," said friend Donna Reynolds. "They witness their friend go from being healthy, vibrant and active to feeling poorly and unable to plan or commit to anything. The sobering realities of cancer include months of doctor appointments, chemotherapy, surgeries, and radiation, not to mention the emotional ups and downs and the mental challenge of staying positive. Friends and family can pray for her, and accompany her to the doctor for chemo drip treatments. They can help her shave her head when her hair starts falling out. They can keep her in the social loop and take her out and about when she feels up to it. But what they cannot do is stand by and do nothing," Reynolds mused.

So... Donna's enterprising girlfriends came up with a plan, as only girlfriends can! They decided to organize a fundraiser to assist their friend through this difficult time. Donna has so many friends, perhaps what no one person can do on their own, can be done as a whole. The response from locals has been overwhelmingly supportive! Donna Johns reportedly has expressed some discomfort at being the recipient of all this generosity but her friends simply told her to "get over it."

Party with a Purpose will be held at Church Street Village Clubhouse and Pool in Santa Rosa Beach, the subdivision located behind Community Church, just off Hwy 98. It starts at 5:00 p.m. All are encouraged to BYOB

Party with a Purpose is sponsored by the Friends of Donna Johns. Those who wish to make donations for the silent auction or who would like to send a check can do so by contacting Tammy Williams via cell phone (850) 855-8456 or by snail mail at 152 Zander Way, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, 32459.

Who doesn't enjoy a great, well planned party? And, who doesn't like to feel they have something to contribute to a fellow human being when crisis hits? Come out and enjoy yourselves - and help someone out at the same time!
