We will be here for 3 months. Did some volunteer work at Boys and Girls Club in Panama City Beach last year and hope to do that again but looking for something in Destin area or 30A.

Maybe you can add your names to the lsit of people who are willing to volunteer to reopen the Coastal Branch Library on Saturdays. It has been closed on Saturdays due to budget cuts...and there is a move to utilize volunteers to open it again so people who work Monday through Friday can have more opportunity. It is open Monday nights until eight and there may be volunteer opportunies then as well.

Would love to have you help out with Children's Volunteer Health Network which provides health and dental care for uninsured and underinsured children in Walton and Okaloosa counties. Please go to the website for more information - www.cvhnkids.org. It's a great organization!

Thanks for the reply.

I was going to suggest the organization with which I volunteer, but it requires a more long term commitment. It is the First Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem program. Due to the unfortunate length of time that cases are in the dependency system, it probably would not work for you. But please keep it in mind should you ever find yourself in the area for a longer period of time.

By law, all children in the dependency system should have a Guardian ad Litem appointed to them. The First Judicial Circuit is comprised of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties. Due to the shortage of volunteers, Walton County is the lowest represented county in the First Judicial Circuit. The last statistic I was sent, shows only approximately 45% of Walton County's abused and neglected children have a Guardian ad Litem appointed to advocate for them.

A volunteer is also able to choose which locations of Walton County in which they would like to accept cases, which would satisfy your 30A/Destin preference.

Thanks so much for your willingness to serve our children in whichever capacity you choose!

GUARDIAN AD LITEM
