I don't usually pay much attention to the early forecast, but this sentence got my attention. :eek:

Gray and Klotzbach said that precursors to this year's hurricane season are similar to early April conditions ahead of the 1958, 1966, 1969, 1998 and 2005 seasons.
1998 was Georges, and 2005 doesn't even bear thinking about. :blink:

Yea, that statement didn't make me feel great. Last fall they started talking about the El Nino dissipating by summer and my first thought was that it happened in 2005 as well....

In the annual International Disaster Conference earlier this year there was a LOT of discussion on the upcoming Cane' season.

Aren't the gulf temperatures significantly lower than in 2005? Remember, those storms weren't all that terrible until they'd get in the gulf and get supercharged.
