The South Walton Fire District (SWFD) received a call at 11:23 a.m. reporting a Recreational Vehicle (RV) on fire at the campground in Grayton Beach State Park. The SWFD responded and arrived to find an RV fully engulfed in flames beginning to spread to the wooded area surrounding the campsites. SWFD crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
The family had just arrived at the camp site 30 minutes prior to the fire starting and had not even had time to set the RV up. The RV was a complete loss. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by SWFD Fire Marshal Sammy Sanchez. Park officials are putting the family up in a cottage until alternative plans can be arranged.
