US Airways to offer direct flights to and from Washington, D.C.

US Airways announced it will offer daily direct flights from Northwest Florida Regional to Reagan National Airport starting March 25.

The direct flights will leave Northwest Florida Regional daily at 4:50 p.m. and arrive at Reagan National at 8:13 p.m. Flights from Reagan National to Northwest Florida Regional will leave daily at 2:40 p.m. and arrive at 4:13 p.m.

They're also adding Tallahassee-National and restarting Pensacola-National service as part of a mini-hub there:

Not encouraging.

This would be more encouraging if this was a decent airline.

US Airways is rated at 3.3 out of 10 by Airlinequality.com compared to Southwest's 8 out of 10.

They're still probably better than *shudder* Atlantic Southeast and have more destination options than Southwest.

Judging by the seating selection, it looks like a small plane.

Plane size

It is a Canadair CRJ 200 which is the smallest of the regional jets. Seating is normally 50. They get uncomfortable after about 2 hours.

Unfortunately, I think the chances of direct flights from Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul died with the Northwest-Delta merger. Delta's even scaling back the Memphis hub in favor of more connecting flights through Atlanta.
