2013: Nest #18

2013: Nest #17

Nest 17 in the Old Seagrove Beach area. It’s a loggerhead.

2013: Nest #16

Nest 16 found by Tricia in the Seagrove Beach area.

2013: Nest #15

Here is nest 15. It’s a loggerhead nest that was laid in Sandestin. The nest was found the night before by Erica after she was called by the sheriff’s department. It was a good thing they were able to reach her and that she was able to respond. We’re told there were probably 30 to 40 people on the beach watching this poor sea try to make her way back to the water after laying her eggs. All of the activity completely covered her tracks so had Erica not marked the nest that night it would have been extremely difficult, if not impossible, to locate the nest at dawn.

2013: Nest #14

Nest 14 found by Matt in the Miramar Beach area. This poor sea turtle almost fell in a hole on her way to find a place where she could safely nest.

2013: Nest #13

Nest 13 found by Karen and Kevin in the Fort Panic area.

2013: Nest #12

Walkers examine where a sea turtle came up in Inlet Beach to lay her eggs at nest 12. For the second day in a row the sea turtle that nested in this area walked about 600 feet to the east while attempting to return to the water. It was determined both were being drawn away from the water by a light mounted on a pole that was shining onto the beach.

2013: Nest #11

Finding and marking nests is not all fun. Walkers work to document nest 11 as high winds and rain move into Inlet Beach where the nest was located. Here they take measurements from the water to the nest. Note the sea turtle track shows the turtle just missed a cabana tent that was left out illegally over night.

2013: Nest #10

Nest 10 found in the Alys Beach area.

2013: Nest #9

Nest 9 found by Valerie in Seacrest Beach. The loggerhead came within 4 feet of 2 vendor boxes, which were sitting side by side.
