Alright- we have made it through the 'set up" process- now we need YOU to help get the momentum going- to advocate for the kids of Walton County. This is a wonderful way to bring all of Walton County together- without political parties or a geographical divide- our advisors and supporters come from north and south Walton, and are politically very diverse, but united in the quest of making the schools, ALL schools, the best they can be, and recognizing that a strong school system starts with excellent leadership and the participation of the community.

Will you sign up today to get involved with our referendum campaign? You can sign up to get our e-mails, list your name on the website as an endorser, contribute money (this is a real campaign and we will need money to get the vote out), or volunteer to do even more. There are lots of ways to get involved. Click through and check out how you can make a difference. http://www.kidsbeforepolitics.com/volunteer

At this morning's BCC meeting, the vote to put the referendum on the August ballot passed unanimously! For those who either do not understand the value of appointing versus electing a superintendent or are opposed to the idea, please see the website and also do your own research! Staying in the 1% of all school districts should not be the goal.

Did any of the commissioners take a public position on the issue of hired vs. elected superintendent or just for the referendum?

It's interesting that board member Gail Smith is one of the less than one percent crowd. Personally, I don't think the behavior and actions of Walton County politicians are a good example for anything.

I asked all commissioners today to state their position on the referendum for an appointed superintendent. Of the five, 3 have responded so far. Each tried to explain in a condescending way that the commissioners have to approve all items that go on the ballot. DUH. Even after several requests to each, none would commit to a position, or even commit to stating their position publicly in the future. They all said they would study the issue before they voted. We should all contact our commissioners and push them to stand up and be held accountable.
