Turns out this was all a big mistake, a couple of journal entries were misplaced and the fund balance was OK. So says the new CFO last night.

A big mistake? A couple of journal entries were misplaced? And we the taxpayers are supposed to be OK with that excuse? Excuses seem to be a hallmark of the queen's reign.

Not sure what makes them look dumber.... Losing the money or finding it. A cynic would say someone (previous CFO) found some improprieties and was set up to ruin her reputation. I would like to think it was a Machiavellian conspiracy rather than lowest level of incompetence in leadership imaginable.

They weren't misplaced they were double booked. They should have stood out to a first year accounting student and like a whale swimming in Lake DeFuniak.

Guess they never knew what was going on as their earlier explanations now seem like smoke & mirrors to appease the public.

When you mislead the public with bogus explanations it's a big deal Mr Wallace.

who uncovered this "mistake"? State auditors? New CFO? If month to month actuals v. Budget were produced and the Superintendent and/or board knows how to read a budget or simple financial statement, the mistake would have been obvious in the month it was posted. This level of incompetence require state intervention. I cannot fathom any plausible excuses.
