SoWal staff went to George's for lunch yesterday (Lisa, Audrey, Molly and Teresa, joined by our friend Jill of Clutch Media Works). We talked to Chef Camille about some of the new items on the menu and also chatted with Director of Operations Patrick who oversees George's, La Cocina and Saltwater Grill (PCB) - all owned by the Spell Group (who also own a restaurant in Memphis). Doug was our server and he was awesome. In fact, nearly all of the servers and kitchen staff have been with George's for a very long time - which makes for a great team and excellent dining experience.

Look for our story - Molly got some good shots of our apps, entrees and desserts. Audrey will be writing up a fun and delicious story as she always does. With this kind of food, the story nearly writes itself. Seriously, this is one of the very best spots for lunch and dinner you'll find in South Walton.

We started with lobster quesadilla, watermelon tuna poke, and tomato tartine - mouth watering appetizer creations. And went from there! The George's Burger - so good we have written about it in a previous story about SoWal Burgers. The Grouper Sandwich is a serious contender for the best around. We had the salmon blt wrap from the "Behave" menu and it was just as delicious as anything on the "Misbehave" menu.

George's looks small but has plenty of seating indoors in the main dining room plus two side porches (with a/c) and expanded seating outside under big umbrellas. This restaurant is beautiful, fun, comfortable and well run by an excellent team. We'll be back soon. I look forward to a very special night out for dinner at George's.

An excellent lunch was had by all. We love George's and all the people who make it a special place. Thanks to owners Christy and Rick Spell for taking this beloved place to the next level.

After sharing two incredible desserts, we walked over to check out Ann Hartley's new shop just across the street in Alys Beach - It's called Ann Hartley Alys Beach. It's a beautiful boutique filled with clothing, accessories, art and things from Ann's travels all over. Isn't it a small world as Ann and George were the creators of George's several years ago when they moved the little cottage from Seagrove Beach (Sandor's restaurant in the old days) and opened up a new restaurant in Alys Beach. The Hartley's will be re-opening the Seagrove Village Market in the Fall, along with their new Surfing Deer restaurant (formerly V Seagrove).

Never a dull moment with SoWal Food and Dining! See SoWal restaurants and news in the dining guide.
