Absentee ballots have been mailed. Some of you will go to the polls on August 28 to vote in your respective Districts. I hope each and every one of you have taken the time to meet the candidates and understand the issues that are most important to the community as a whole. I also hope you have done your own research and that you have working knowledge of the problems this county faces and how it is that we have come to be in the situation we are currently in. We NEED to elect people who have a working knowledge of the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Codes
I recognize that Customary Use of the beaches has polarized this county and its seems as though that is the only issue we face. It's not! We need jobs in North Walton, we need infrastructure, we need water & sewer on 331 south, we need safe clean water, we need to fix the problems created in South Walton because the infrastructure was not in place to handle the rabid growth that over development has caused. Beyond those things, we need open, honest, government operated in the Sunshine. We NEED Commissioners who can NOT be bought by special interests, big developers or big money.
We need to elect candidates who will not only represent their districts but because we vote for Commissioners County wide, we NEED to elect Commissioners who have a working knowledge of all 5 districts and their respective problems.
What we don't need is, voting for the good ole boy because you know him and have eaten at his daddy's restaurant for years, or because he let's you hunt on his land, or you went to school or the same church and you know his family. That is not voting effectively or intelligently and it won't bring about much needed change. What that will do is ensure that nothing changes.
We have a significant opportunity to effect meaningful change in Walton County in this primary election. Please vote for experience, honesty, integrity and most of all let's change the way it's always been because that hasn't worked out so well for any of us. It's cost the taxpayers millions of dollars in lawsuits and has stifled growth. It has put money in the pockets of unscrupulous Commissioners and fattened the wallets of Attorney's, big developers and special interests.
It's past time to put our tax dollars to work for the people who actually pay them...US!
