Due to Walton County’s high visitation rates and relatively low population, it is one of nine counties in Florida which can collect a “High Impact Penny” as part of its tourist development tax collections.

During its July 9 meeting, the Walton County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted to begin collecting the additional penny beginning Jan. 1, 2020, bringing Walton County in line with already established 5% TDT collection rates paid by visitors on short-term rental accommodations in neighboring Bay and Okaloosa counties.

The BCC has indicated their intention to use funds generated from the high impact penny to strengthen infrastructure and increase public beach access and parking.

What does "strengthen infrastructure" mean?
I suspect, but don't know for sure, that this applies to things like the multi-use path, restrooms, parking improvements, access improvements (walkovers, benches, flags, showers, etc.). Basically anything having to do with actual physical/structural amenities that allow tourists to enjoy the beach, trails, and any other amenities available to them, particularly within walking and biking distance.
