We are reaching out today because the elections in Walton County are fast approaching and there are three Board of County Commissioners seats on the ballot this year. It is an important time for everyone in our community to learn about the candidates so that they can be empowered to make their votes count.

The COVID crisis has made it difficult to hold in-person candidate forums so it has been challenging to get to know those that are running. We were thrilled to find out that a group of concerned citizens have formed a committee “Vote Smart Walton” to host an ALL VIRTUAL Town Hall Candidate Forum, and we want to help spread the word!

The event is being sponsored by South Walton Community Council and DeFuniak Springs Business and Professional Association and will be taking place over the course of three (3) evenings. Tuesday, July 21st, Thursday, July 23rd and Tuesday, July 28th all happening from 6:30 pm to 8:00pm.

Mark your calendars now so you can attend these events live. We will share the links to attend via email next week and also on our FB Page.

The forums will be recorded and available at a later date, but plan to attend live to get the most out of this wonderful opportunity. If you are on Facebook, we encourage you to go “like” and “follow” the Vote Smart Walton Facebook Page, as the recordings will be posted there, as well as each question so the conversation can continue after the forum.

Here is a list of confirmed candidates for each of these meetings:

Tuesday, July 21
Mike Barker, Lisa Johnson, Philip Cryar, Teddy Stewart, Carolynn Zonia, Boots McCormick, Debbie Heard, Vanessa Goodson

Thursday July 23
Mike Barker, Carolynn Zonia, Debbie Heard, Vanessa Goodson, Teddy Stewart, Philip Cryar

Tuesday July 28th
Mike Barker, Teddy Stewart, Philip Cryar, Carolynn Zonia, Debbie Heard

Again, this election is one of the most important things happening in Walton County right now, and it’s important that everyone is educated about where the candidates stand on things that are most important to them, and that we SHOW UP AT THE POLLS!

Question - why are some candidates featured for all three nights and others for only one or two? I can understand other commitments but if someone watches each night that could unfairly skew someone's chances.

A BIG Thanks!

To South Walton Community Council and Vote Smart Walton for hosting and distributing videos of virtual Town Hall Forums for the BCC Candidates on July 21,21 and 28.

If you want to see what servant leadership can look like in Walton County be sure to watch the replays above. A heartfelt thank you to all who have attended, shared and watched the replays of our BCC Candidate forum, and a big shout out to the candidates who participated! It would not have been the success it was without you! Thank you for stepping up to lead our county and wish you all the best in the election.

We urge you to share this post with your friends and neighbors. Many are uncertain about who to vote for; we believe the discussions presented here are very informative, and an informed electorate will make good choices.
