Best Restaurants in SoWal for a large group

Hello all! We're coming in Saturday for our annual trip to 30-A (7 yrs now) & was wondering about the best/new/most reasonable restaurants off 30-A. We know some: Stinky's Fish Camp, Shorty's, Bud & Alley's, Angelina's, Pizza by the Sea, Bruno's, Taco Hut, Cowgirl Kitchen & a few others...

Beach Chairs all the way up to the water

I hadn't seen your post until after I posted mine, but I couldn't agree with you more! Guests should NOT have to setup behind empty unrented chairs! It is VERY uncomfortable to cut between families because there is nowhere else to go through because the chair setups are so tight & so many...

Beach Chairs all the way up to the water

As a visitor & future resident, I can say I do NOT like all those chairs set up & them not being rented! There should be some kind of ordinance that no more than 2 umbrellas/chairs (which are not rented) can be set up at a time. I was out on the beach from 6:15 most mornings setting up with my...

Have we ever talked about salad dressing?

Mango, I LOVE this! I make little crostinis topped with fig preserves & crumbled Gorgonzola & drizzle it with honey for hors d'oeuvres at Christmas & they are ALWAYS a hit! Of course, it's hard not to eat them while I'm making them!

Have we ever talked about salad dressing?

I like this simple recipe: 6 oz. of Gorgonzola crumbles 1/3 cup red wine vinegar (good quality) 3/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil salt optional Mix together & serve!

    No Grayton wedding?? Denied!

I would think that as long as it wasn't too big & the owners are okay with it, it would be fine. We have had great luck with VRBO.com for finding wonderful places to stay. On this site, you deal directly with the owners. Best wishes to you!

There's nothing better than waking up in SoWal!!!

Great day at the beach-the surf was rough, but the water was gorgeous! For dinner we ended up at Nick's on the Beach. Good food & good service! We took our family pics on the beach & then headed back to play board games & start packing up some of our stuff. :( I am sad to leave this...

There's nothing better than waking up in SoWal!!!

Tonight is our seafood night out, so I need to search the SoWal Forum for the best seafood restaurant off 30-A (we don't feel like going into Destin or PCB.) Anybody want to throw out some ideas, & save me the trouble?

There's nothing better than waking up in SoWal!!!

Thursday: What a day, so much fun!!! We ate a big breakfast, packed some sandwiches & snacks & headed over to St. Andrews State Park & rented a pontoon boat to go to Shell Island. It was looking pretty ominous when we headed out, but it cleared up & was beautiful! We saw a few stingrays &...

There's nothing better than waking up in SoWal!!!

We had decided on pizza the first night because of the same reasons-too much rushing around!! Hadn't heard about the beer! I'll have to make a run to Publix! Thanks! P.S. Maybe I'll still be here when you come down-I told my family that I'm NOT going back this year. Don't know where I'll live...

There's nothing better than waking up in SoWal!!!

Wednesday brought more rain in the morning, but when it started clearing we went out to the beach. In the late afternoon, the girls did our annual Big Mama's Hula Gallery Stop & picked up a few treasures, then we stopped at the Zoo Gallery (great store with hilariously inappropriate cards)...

There's nothing better than waking up in SoWal!!!

Tuesday: Forgot to mention that we had some Angelina's pizza the first night & the supreme was delicious! Since it was raining yesterday, we shopped in PCB @ Pier Park & then had lunch @ Shades on the way back to 30-A. The wings were good & the Chicken Jalapeno Wraps were loved by the others in...

Beautiful day at the beach, seagrass and all! Sun, surf & Frozen Pomegranate Margaritas!! No major sunburns, great success!!:D Now we're getting ready for a dinner of Grilled Margarita Chicken, Grilled Corn with Lime Butter with cilantro & cayenne, and some Spanish Rice. Also, Watermelon Mojitos!

There's nothing better than waking up in SoWal!!!

We arrived last night (after much rain & many accidents & stand still traffic.) Woke up in heaven, though! :) Getting some groceries, then heading out to the beach. Staying in a new place this year, & the house is so nice, with that perfect beachy feel! I'll try to post as we go! Have a great...

    Tents On The Beach

I don't live it SoWal (yet), but as a visitor, I HATE seeing the poles up when I go on early morning walks. Besides being potentially harmful to the sea turtles, it just looks trashy. We do use a portable canopy on the beach, but we fold it up & drag it back when we go in for the day (& it is...

    I can't help but notice...seaweed?

My sister & her family like the look of the 30-A area, but they only stay in Destin because of all the June Grass/Sargasum off 30A. I have posted before on here how it just seems like there is more of it off the 30A area (very curious as to why.) Have gone to Shell Island & Destin &...

Question: What would you love to have in SoWal?

Okay, I'm just a visitor (plan to be a local at some point), but I agree with Scooter: 1) Public transportation along 30-a and up 331 2) Power lines buried along all scenic highways

    I can't help but notice...seaweed?

As a BeachCam voyeur, I cannot help but notice how heavy the June Grass/Seaweed is this year. I see piles of it on the Dune Allen cam & heavy lines of it on the shore on the Seagrove Beach cams. We will arrive in 9 days, so I have been watching the 10 day forecasts (which call for...

    Red Fox at Inlet Beach

Beach Chairs all the way up to the water

For the life of me, I cannot see the appeal of Destin, Sandestin & Panama City. I'll stay right here in Paradise! I sure hope it NEVER gets this way on 30-A!

Is Rosemary the best place for us?

I hate long road trips, too. We drive to Baton Rouge on Friday (& meet up with our friends from Dallas), we stay there & then wake up & drive into SoWal the next morning. On our way back, we stop in New Orleans (got to get our Creole food & our beignets!) These stops really help with the...

Is Rosemary the best place for us?

Dear Fragglerock, We are from the New Braunfels area & our close friends we vacation with are from Dallas. Both our husbands are Mexican & we are white. Obviously, our children are bi-racial. This will be our 5th year coming to the area, & we always feel comfortable. I asked my husband...

Guess What I Saw This Morning???

RiverOtter, it IS all good! Just wondering where (not that the sharks don't swim everywhere!) I like to swim out pretty far ("flirt with the sharks" as my hubby says.) Murder in Seagrove

Thank you for the information, I suspected there had to be some violent behavior prior to this. I wonder if the behavior he demonstrated at home (that caused his parents to kick him out) was bad enough that he should have been committed? I am not blaming the parents, just wondering; obviously...

    Murder in Seagrove

This is so horrible!!! Makes you just want to hold your kids close! I cannot believe this guy is smiling in his mug shot!!! Does anyone know if he was "off" mentally? (I mean, you have to be to murder someone, but has he always been "off" in his behavior?)

    Anything new?

Sadly, not since last July (this is our 5th annual trip). I'm hoping we can go again in November. Ugh! Walmart? (not very SoWal) Haha! Where is that opening? (I'm hoping far away from 30-A!) Thank you for the recommendations. One more question: We get our seafood from Goatfeathers when we are...

Seaside Anniversary - got a cool Seaside story?

I have no stories to tell from long ago. My story with Seaside started 5 years ago. We had a lot of friends who vacationed in Destin, & we were thinking about going there as well. I was talking about it with one of my good friends who had just returned from Rosemary Beach & she said, "I think...

Is it my imagination, or is the Jume grass (or seaweed) heavier than usual this year?

Thanks Jdarg! When I look at some of the different beach cams, it seems like the June grass is heavier in the Seagrove area, I wonder if that is because of the current there, or maybe water temperature? I just found that curious...

Is it my imagination, or is the Jume grass (or seaweed) heavier than usual this year? :idontno:I look at the Seagrove Villas Cam & it looks really heavy. The Seagrove Beach SkyCam is down, so I can't see the overhead view. ~Monica

familyof3, I've apparently driven past it on the way in (did not know that Crab Island was at Destin Pass) We'll be sticking with Shell Island. Thanks for the input! ~Monica

Hello SoWal! I'm trying to plan some activities to do while we are there in July. I need some opinions on where would be the best spot for snorkeling (we plan on renting a boat). We love our R&R, but want a few things to do with our high school & college age kids. Any ideas on...

    Always too short...

RosemaryDreamer, I definitely want to try to get there in October or even November. DD, isn't it funny how so many people feel this way about SoWal? We've met many who loved it so much that they moved out there & made it work. I just love that!:clap:There's a special magic about SoWal!:D
