Gravel Road? All You Can Eat?

We will be down this week and always eat at the Gravel Road. I'm glad someone warned me about the fish fry, I can eat frozen processed fish here in KY. We will still be dining there but at least now we can steer clear of the seafood.

Dining so so far this week (Maries, Gravel Road, ShooMamas)

We will be down in three weeks and cannot wait! DW loves Gravel Road, so that's already on our dinner list, but we will try Maries and ShooMamas. We typically eat at the Donut Hole or get donuts from Charlies truck, but I'm looking forward to trying Don Pedros as well. Thanks for posting these...

    Eating in Sowal with kids?

I'd recommend Elmo's on 30A. We have eaten there every year since DD was an infant and it is very baby/toddler friendly. They are my favorite place for seafood in Sowal.

    Westboro Church in Niceville tomorrow

Someone should alert the Patriot Guard Riders. They typically only attend military funerals, but knowing how much they enjoy disrupting the Westboro nonsense, they might make an exception in this case.

Lowering the speed limit on 30A?

I honestly wasn't trying to make this debate about left vs. right, although like you said, its clear to see which way RobertsonDavies leans politically. I was just pointing out a recurring theme in his posts that literally made me laugh out loud as I really love a good ironic statement. That...

Lowering the speed limit on 30A?

You are hilarious on so many fronts! I'm going to pick an obvious one that noone has mentioned to date. Apparently, someone in a Nissan Armada backed over your tricycle, stole your parking place at the last Black Friday sale, or something else tragic because that is the vehicle of choice you...

    Alys Beach growth

Let's all pray that oil spill does not reach SoWal beaches! If it does however, Alys Beach owners and their "Rolls Royce's" will be in the same boat as everyone else. A concrete bunker may protect against hurricanes, but not against sweet crude.

    Alys Beach growth

Lakeview, you make a good point about the variations in construction between the MS coast (pre Katrina) and FL. I think that's all fine and good for a Cat 3 and below. But when you get into Cat 4 and 5, its a whole other deal. The homes I was referring to in Gulfport were at least 100 yards or...

    Alys Beach growth

After personally driving through Gulfport, MS to pick up some friends soon after Katrina made landfall, I would say there could be a difference between what an architect says on a brochure about "hurricane proof", and what actually happens in a big storm. The locals in Gulfport we were with...

    Alys Beach growth

When they say "hurricane proof", I wonder if that's a relative term. I would imagine that if something like Katrina came along, they may redefine that classification. Even still, if the actual concrete bunkers held up, they would probably end up being washed out concrete bunkers and pretty...

Off the beaten path crab legs?

Kingrenteria, thanks for the tip about Flemings. It sounds great but since we have our 2 year old daughter and no grandma to watch her this trip, I think Elmo's is the best bet for us. We will be there Thursday for sure. We are putting Flemings into the address book for the next trip down.

Off the beaten path crab legs?

Good point about them not being local, I'd love to go get some local fresh seafood, but my wife will pretty much only eat crab legs. I really like the idea about going to Publix and getting them steamed there, but I/we will eat a ton of them so who knows. Thanks for the tip about Elmo's, we'll...

Off the beaten path crab legs?

We are heading down for our second trip to Seagrove Beach in a few days and I have a newbie question. Where can we find a good place for bottomless crab legs without going to the "touristy" places. I know there must be some great places where locals go. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
