    MountainFilm Florida 11/5-6, 2010

Oh, yeah, and one more thing. I still feel that nothing tops off the Mountainfilm weekend like Sunday afternoon kickball. :D

    MountainFilm Florida 11/5-6, 2010

This makes several years running now that Mountainfilm has been the same weekend as Seaside's wine festival, and I've been hoping it would change at some point--I think each event can support its own weekend, honestly. But, based on the event poster above, it looks like somebody's trying to turn...

    Grayton Place rental mystery--help!

Last year we rented Grayton Place #3, one of the townhouses/condos right down from Red Bar (on the same side). Was perfect for us, and we wanted to rent it again. However, the sign currently on the condo lists an 800-number that turns out to be a Rivard number, but Rivard says this condo is no...

Farmers Market every Saturday in Seaside, Florida

Bought a necklace from Artesano last weekend, and I overheard the jewelrymaker (sorry, forgot her name) mention she has items for sale on Etsy. I'd love to be able to buy things from a Sowaller even when I'm not in Sowal, so if you're out there, Artesano girl, or anyone who knows who she is--how...

Seagrove Villas Motel Reopening this Spring

We have friends making their maiden voyage to Sowal in the fall, and the wife/vacation planner was immediately sold on the Villas when I showed them to her today. Has already called to check availability and rates. :clap:Kurt, the tours look great--and the decor and sprucing up are fantastic, Jason!

    I just saw a bobcat...

Oooooh, I did finally last November! Was out for an early morning walk and saw one in Western Lake. Coincidentally, it was right before we were headed out for a kayak trip in Eastern Lake led by Smiling Joe. Good times.

    I just saw a bobcat...

Now you've got the hang of it! You can also use it as a way of expressing your unbelief in something someone has just said by simply replying, "Bobcat!"

Oh! Oh! I just remembered--the Belgian chocolate brownie at Le Pain Quotidien. Anybody ever had it?
  16. peapod1980

    Who makes the best brownies?

OL, seriously?! How is that possible? I'll go for it, though, because that's a pretty hefty claim you're making there. All except for the endorsement of edges--ick. Can't stand them. Note to self: in November, box of Ghirardelli brownies from Costco for Kitty, case of Fat Tire for Chris V.

    swimming pool rentals?

nodilberthere, looks like this might be one of those live and learn situations. It sounds like you went against your gut feeling when you made a reservation for a house without a pool, so this year you'll probably gain an invaluable lesson--either you'll confirm beyond all doubt that a house...

    Seaside or Rosemary

I agree. I actually prefer Rosemary over Seaside just in terms of the "neighborhood" itself, but I like to use my car as little as possible when in Sowal, and when we stayed in Rosemary, we had to use the car a lot because of the location at the far end of 30A.

What do you look for in a vacation rental?

We, too, are intentional non-pool renters. My feeling has always been if you're going to the beach, go to the beach! Swimming pools are a dime a dozen back home, so why pay a premium for one on vacation? I might consider offering another, far less expensive perk like free beach set-ups for...

    Starbucks closing in Rosemary?

I'm sorry, too, but I'll take a certain delight in the look on Mr. Pod's face when I tell him. He's such a Starbucks sheep. P.S. I only see the Rosemary Beach and Watercolor stores listed, Kurt. Is the Grayton one also closing?

    Canopy on the beach

Exactly. The signs are posted, the laws are in place. Seems pretty simple--if it's left after dark, it's abandoned. I have heard from more than one person now that the phone calls start pouring in to various offices as soon as the TDC does a sweep of the beach. Interesting, isn't it, that...

    Canopy on the beach

I don't know, maybe there's an upside to the canopies left on the beach overnight. Since we know most of the people leave all their stuff under the canopies overnight, I think I'll look at the canopies as little beach shopping malls.

    Canopy on the beach

I've said this before, but in all my years of coming to the beach, it never occurred to me that it was OK for me to leave my stuff on the beach overnight. I never asked anyone, I didn't look up any laws, it just seemed obvious to me--the day's over, take your stuff in. Granted, there were times...

The Stinky Cheese Man Opens May 27!

If we were still in Sowal, you know we'd be so there! Three Tuesday nights in a row wasn't enough--the kids and I were talking about it just last night, and the oldest Pea said, "It really is different every time you see it!" High praise from a jaded 15-year-old.

    No More Direct Chicago Flight

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I told Mr. Pod the last time we flew that the airlines have nearly killed my love of traveling, and that's saying a lot. Over the past few years, I've reached the same conclusion about driving, scooter. Only problem is, the cost of gas is now nearly prohibitive. Kimmi, I'm...

That stinks. Though we already know what a headache it is to get from St. Louis to Sowal via the airlines. So not worth it, such a hassle.

    Water clear?

The purple flags flew every day for 3 weeks, and we probably spotted jellyfish every day. Didn't ruin anything for us. The thing is, too, the beach changes every day. Right after the news covered all the June grass, we had a day down in Seagrove where the water was clear and beautiful.
